Any suggestions?

The Osprey is back on his normal daytime roost. He surveys the world from the top of a channel marker in the water in front of my home. About the closest I can get to him is a solid forty metres, and he is always backlit.
Apart from sitting on the pontoon all day with camera in hand waiting for him to take to the air, does anyone have any suggestions as to tackle this tricky subject?

With 2x converter is little bit soft, 1.7x will do the trick well

Get the boat and anchor it closer to the target.

Tonnes of patience.
It all depends on how much you want to photograph this bird. The best nature phots spend a considerable amount of time waiting for the perfect opportunity to shoot. That's much more patience than i have
Alternatively, you could sneak up on it and throw a rock at it to get it airborne.

Steve the problem is that I want him to fly closer to me not further away, which is what I think rock tossing would do.
I think I might have to put my boat in before daylight and then sit and wait for him to show.

I had another thought.
Buy some pilchards from a tackle shop and 'entice' him from his roost. it may take some time to gain his confidence though.

Steve that is amazing as that is exactly (down to the pillies) what I was thinking. It should be possible to get the bird to take one on the wing.
