Tamron Lens info

Postby NewbieD70 on Sat Aug 13, 2005 4:03 pm

Hi All,

Just wondering if someone could offer me some advice on a lens. I was looking at getting something up from the kit and thinking about a cheapie 70-300 G, but saw a TAMRON AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 LD Aspherical (Model 171D) Lens for sale fairly cheap.

Could anyone tell me if this is ok with the D70, and if its an alright lens?

Thanks very much
Thanks, Trevor

I believe our fellow member MCWB has that lens, and used it even for car racing shooting before he got his 70-200VR. However he's in the midst of overseas travel at the moment, but once he gets back I'm sure he'll add his 2 cents.

Trevor, haven't used that lens, but it is a step down in quality and optics from the kit lens, though it does offer more reach.

I got one chucked in by HN when I bought my D70. I've taken some very nice pics with it, but a 70-200VR it ain't

If you understand it's not very fast and not really sharp below about f8, for the price it's a cheap way to get a lot of reach.
If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
