The GAZE

Postby Sheetshooter on Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:24 am

Geoff posted a pic of a couple on a bench seat at Mona Vale looking out over the golf links. In time, leek raised the issue of sharing the Point Of View with the couple. This all prompted me to post this link to an interesting diuscussion by entitled Notes on ‘The Gaze’ - by Daniel Chandler

I hope that you find it as interesting as I have.

Cheers,

Article makes for interesting reading...

The change of height/perspective as suggested by Leek would change the story that Geoff's image tells, from the POV of observer to narrator(?!) and I feel all the suggested 'get further left' for Geoff's off centre image would have a different impact upon the viewer.

Onyx,

Selection of viewpoint is such a potent narrative device. When added to The Gaze the possibilities are boundless. The viewer's participation can range from idolater to voyeur in an instant.
