Becoming a Freelance Photographer!

Postby mrbillf on Tue Aug 16, 2005 2:23 pm

G'day team,

I've always wondered about becoming a freelance photographer. The only think that is stopping me is 'How does one get started?'. What I mean is. Do you need a special licence or permit?, do you need any other qualifications, do you need to register somewhere? for example, how do you get into the football grounds or Motor Racing tracks?

So, does anyone know where I can get more information in regards to freelancing? and any additional costs incurred up front.

My photography interests are Sports, like Football, Soccer, Baseball, Netball, Rugby, AFL, Motor Racing (V8's).

Thanks again,
Bill

Well that's a bugger. :(

I didn't know about the limit of posts being 30. I thought by just being a member of this forum would be enough. Thanks, looks like I'll have to wait.

Alas, it's true.

However, post a picture and / or attend a mini-meet and you might not need the 30 post minimum. :)

Hi Bill,
See if you can look at the members section. I have made less than 30 posts but can read members only threads.

EDIT - sorry Bill - I have posted a pic. I didn't realise that made a difference

I've posted pictures before and I actually can see and log into the Members Only section. Like I can see the For Sale Bargains etc. Anyway, I've updated my profile with my location now.

See what happens now.

Bill,

There's a minimeet at Birddog's this Saturday.

You should be able to read messages in the Photography as a Business section, but by coming along to a minimeet, you'd be pretty well granted full access immediately.

But coming back to your question .... start taking photos. Approach your local rag. The local footy and/or cricket clubs. what else interests you? Seek out the organisations that sponsor those sorts of activities.

Thanks Gary,
Unfortunately I can't make this Saturday due to being at a sports venue shooting some shots and later that night doing an anniversary but I'll keep an eye out for others. Thanks for the tips with the local rags etc.

Thanks to all for your support and replies.

Regards
Bill
