D70s - vertical grip with 'real' shutter release possible?

Hello everyone,

I had this question revolving around in my mind for quite a long time: the D70s, unlike the D70, has provision for attaching a cable shutter release that features a 'real' shutter release button like the one on the camera.

My question is that is it not possible to make a vertical grip for the D70s with a true shutter release button now that the D70s has a connector for it? For those who don't know, 3rd party vertical grips for D70 featured an IR shutter release which many photographers didn't really like. Well, maybe such a grip does exist for the D70s!

Just a thought.

Regards,

Kamran

From what I understood about the D70s, it was designed to allow for the vertical grip that Nikon was planning to release for it that would only work on the D70s, not the D70.

The fun part is just waiting for Nikon to actually release it.

I don't think Nikon will have the vertical grip for the D70s!
The D200 will have the vertical grip as optional.

I believe you can use a 'normal' shutter release on the D70s with the harbortronics grip.

Have a look at the harbortronics site and have a read.

Also have a search on Nikonians as there are quite a few mini reviews / threads on there about replacement grips and exactly what they will/wont do.

Thanks robboh! I never saw this pic at Harbortronics site before:

Also have a look here:

Problem solved ... having the vertical grip on the D70s for portraits does make sense now.

looking at the d70s cable release port, one would think Nikon would offer it as an upgrade for d70 wners. It doesn't look all that different...what are the odds though, that would take Nikon actually caring about their customers opinions.....

Jamie,
I had one unit on eval. while ago and returned it to manufactures.
Not worth it and it's expensive with less functions and won't work as you're fater.

Andy,
I don't think Nikon will do more on the D70 body, the cable release on the D70s is the answer from Nikon for most of the asking and demand in the past. The D70/70s will be replaced by other model next year, perhaps then there's a chance, or Nikon will have one for the next model which can be used on the D70s only.
