I've just received and installed Photoshop CS2 to allow me to work with my D2x raw files. I've also downloaded and installed Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) v3.1. I can sucessfully work with my NEFs now however, Adobe Bridge does not show the thumbnails or previews of the D2x raw files.

Similarly, PS Elements 3 will not import these files as it says "The files is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the organizer". I can however use the PSE3 editor to work on these files.

Any clues from those with more experience with the D2x?

Can't suggest anything but to make sure that you have the most up to date version of Bridge - mine is 1.0.2.109

Depending on your workflow Raw Shooter essentials may be of help
It can preview all raw files in raw format and the interface is intuitive.
The program allows you to interactively change all related RAW image settings like white balance, tone, curves, highligh shadow contast exposure etc.

You can also copy settings from one image to a number of images easily

It handles batch processing too

I prefer it over nikon capture and adobe photoshop

I export the raw file and the file is automatically transferred to Adobe photoshop CS where i then check if the tone is right then save the final image as a TIFF.

Sometimes depending if the D2x uses the sRGB colour space there can be a profile mismatch in the conversion process from raw essentials to photoshop but that can be solved by setting photoshops colour management policies to sRGB or turning off the sRGB colour profile on the D2X

If you have to process hundreds of images in photoshop i am sure there is a RAW extension out there to facilitat that kind of workflow.

One issue with Raw Shooter essentials is how it handles noise, it interprets High ISO say 800 and above images in a way that the noise is more pronounced at 100% view the image looks like is is drawn in a series of vertical and horizontal lines which is very prominent at 50% view this looks like the standard circular noise that you would get at 800ISO
There is a 'noise supression' slider but that just makes the effect worse

I found a clue on the Adobe forums. As suggested there I purged the Bridge cache and now I get thumbnails and exif info for the D2x nef files.

That just leaves the problem with PS Elements not importing these files.

OK. More wading through the Adobe forums and I have solved the PS Elements problem as well. My beloved workflow now accomodates the D2x !!! Ye Ha!!!

Turns out that when installing a new version of camera raw, it is not good enough to rename the old one - it has to be deleted.

I could have told you that...  BTW: How come you have Bridge and not Photoshop CS2???

I do have CS2. I use PS Elements 3 for its organiser, not as an editor. The organiser is great. It has version control of images which is something I have not seen in other similar software like ACDSee or Rawshooter.
