I just started having an issue with the d70,
I put a fresh set of batteries in the camera take 3 or 4 shots and then the camera freezes and an error "CHA" flashes on the top led display.
I turn the camera off and back on again then it works for a shot or two then the same error comes up.
The batteries are fresh I have tried it with two different batteries.
Any ideas? Can anyone tell me what this means?

I have had this message a few times when I put my cf card in. I just remove the cf card and put it in a bit harder. Perhaps yours isn't it properly?

I personally think it's a problem with D70 CF slots... I've had it on mine randomly and it drives me nuts. You leave the card in and it occasionally happens the next time so you have to turn the camera off, pull it out, put it back in... it's like sex, but in an extremely irritating fashion.

Okay, just as a logical deduction what type and brand of cf cards are you guys using?
I did think it may be a cf card issue so I pulled it out and out back in but same error, so now I am trying to deduce wether or not is is particular cf cards.

Mine does this too, but i also get FOR instead of CHA. It is bloody annoying, especially if i am in a hurry to take a shot.

That's the problem from the D70's interface and not the card, and it's known issue with few D70 which came across, you can try that card into another D70 and it'll work well

Send it back to Maxwell, the interface needed to be replaced.

Just had this error on christmas day while taking a few shots. First time this has happened after about 20k actuations. Although I havne't used the camera for a while so I'm not sure if that is part of the cause. The photo was taken but when I tried to zoom in it said it couldn't. So I deleted and retook the shot and it worked fine, took another 20 shots no problem. Hopefully that's the last of it.

Mine did it with a few of the cards randomly and I suspected the CF slot was faulty... so upon doing the warranty thing with Maxwell, I suggested they take a look at the slot and voila! I was right... they replaced the faulty CF card interface.
If it happens, warranty it and they'll fix it.
