Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM

Hi folks. Just wondering if anyone has, or has tried, this Sigma lens?

It gets great reviews. I'm impressed with my Sigma 70-300APO which gives remarkable images for a cheap piece of glass - and I'm considering the Sigma 70-200HSM for low light sports photography. Cash is a bit of an issue at the moment and I can save a few hundred bucks going this way, rather than opting for the 80-200 2.8 Nikon. So, will I be dissapointed if I get the Sigma??

Yes yes I know the Nikon 70-200VR is the best possible choice in this range but I can think of better things to do with $2500.00 :D :)

Next annoying question.................do Sigma make acceptable teleconverters compatible with the 70-200??

Thanks all!

Steve

Which 70-200?

I'd presume so. I have a Sigma 1.4x tele for Canon EOS which works with my Canon 70-200f2.8 and my Sigma 120-300f2.8.

The 70-200mm Sigma pricing in Aus would make the Nikon VR a possibility with only appprox $200 difference going on Birddogs advice.

The Sigma lens from B&H in New York on todays currency conversion is around $1,048 Aus.

Cheers

Hey,
with the Nikon 70-200 VR Grey Import you may add on a third party local warranty extension on it like Mack warranty in the US and it covers for you from 2-3 years for less than $100.00 and you'll be :D

Sigma 70-200 2.8 available from HK for around AU$900.00+ shipping.

Nikon 80-200 2.8 around $1200.00 + shipping. Mr Poon offered me a price of US$860 incl shipping, which equates to only AU$1126.00 - not a bad bargain!! There is a second hand one on Ebay which I'm watching ($900.00).

So Mr Poon just might have another sale!

Birddog, even at $2100.00 the VR is just too expensive

Thanks folks!

If you can get the 80-200 for AU$1126.00 with 12 months warranty from Mr. Poon. Why should you bother with one on eBay for $900.00, and sooner Mr. Poon will have his base in Australia to honour all his sold hardware in our local Australia market. We're working with him on it for our community's benefits, if you're in doubt, just email him and quote my callsign: Birddog114.

How do you know the one on eBay is perfect and can you return it if it's
not as your expectation?
Do you know is it exactly not from the stolen goods?
Money is an object so please think before you buy.
Cheers
P.S: Remember I have no affiliated with him, am just try to simplify the process of buying from him for our community

Hi Werewolf.

I too have been considering this lens. Am going to Hong Kong in a weeks time, and have been dredging the internet -seems to get very good reviews. The equivalent Nikon is just too expensive for me to buy...the Sigma just creeps into my budget (and at the present, that's stretching it too!).

Sigma make two teleconcerters especially for this lens - AF 1.4x and AF 2x APO EX. see at:

Hope this helps.
