Got my 70-200 VR today, so excited and looking forward for the weekend.

But notice something not sure if its right, I can definetly hear a soft clunk noise when VR is disengaging after u release the shutter, and a noise of the gyroscope is definetly there although quite.

I don't remember hearing that noise when using my friend 24-120 VR though. Any suggestions?

Gmaster you will love it. There are all sorts of noises coming from this lens, turn VR off and if it stops I wouldn't worry

Yep just test it . . VR off .. none of those sounds ... magic ... piece of mind finally sets in .. :D
Test it. . doesn't seem to have a backfocus issue either ..
anything else I need to test ?

Is there a way to test the Grounding issue that ppl are talk about with this lense?

gMaster,

Just have lots of fun using it :)

A neat companion for it, would be a Nikon TC-17EII.

Mate, if I could get my hands on one of those, I'd stop worrying and start shooting! Enjoy your new purchase :D

gMaster
if you really want piece of mind, send the lens to me and I'll run a few hundred shots through it....just to make sure everything is ship-shape

Seriously, just enjoy the fact that you finally own the lens and look forward to the weekend.

Yeah try to get the TC-17EII as well but no stock yet only TC-14II. Probably get it next week or so.

I think the grounding issue was on earlier samples. Take photos and enjoy :D

That noise is normal.

Remember the 24-120VR doesn't have the same weight of glass to move around as does this lens.

Had my VR for 8 months now.........ahh what a dream. If Birddog gets on this thread He'll tell you that those noises could'nt happen on the VR but we both know he is wrong. He told me and others the VR could not move in the bayonet fitting....it does. Mine has at least 1.5mm movement in the fitting. It does not seem to effect performance in any way. I think Birddog's words when I questioned the movement in the fitting were "Oh no, not the 70-200 VR" ........but he was wrong. Many users on the forum experienced the same thing. Sorry Borddog, I'm only tellin it like it is.

All is normal. Go out and enjoy. This fella is fast!! Makes some noise along the way and may move in the fitting (which I know you have not mentioned) but it is truely a work of art (& engineering!). Deliver us some results ASAP. I'll look forward to them.

I had movement that resulted in contacts dropping out that produced F--

I'm pretty sure the movement was on the D70 side and not the 70-200VR itself. Most likely softness in the F-mount on the 70.

We need some green coloured emoticons as I am very jealous!
gMaster, I'm curiuos as to where you purchased your lens, please do not mention the price as this is none of my business.
Enjoy your new toy, I'm sure you'll get used to the clunking! :D
Cheers

Marcus,
I was here, I read this thread and I didn't post cos Glen and kipper replied to gMaster question already! Sorry for your belated!!!!!!

I replied to your post with my experiences on the D100/ D2h/ D2x which I have my camera with the 70-200VR, you lens has 1.5mm moving is your own choice and I didn't push it harder as you said.

I just wanted to provided the advise so people may care more about the lens, take it or not is depend on your judgement and experiences, I didn't care it was wrong or right cos every camera and lens has difference behaviour, you may not have the problems but other had, and this forum is for all not only one person, don't take it personally and I wasn't, and I didn't want to go into deeper debate on this non sense accusation from you.

As I recalled, kipper has some minor problems with his 70-200VR and some other who I knew, the problems of the moving of the lens with the lens mount on the camera may caused the mis-aligment of contact pins in between the two and it will make the lens or the camera malfunction which made me post my replies same as other experiences in my field.

I'm here to help & support other, if you don't like it, it's OK, let's it go, same as me, sometimes I read your posts, I didn't feel the use of it or it'll be benefited me, I'll never get in there at the first place and hope you'll do tthe same.

Birddog, It's simple really. I did'nt appreciate you telling me that my lens did not do what I said it did. What were you there? Why would I ask about movement in the bayonet if it did'nt happen. Essentially by your comment "not the 70-200VR" you were calling me a liar. Sorry, but I did not take too kindly to that.

Marcus,

Where did I call you a liar? can you point me to that statement?

Sorry! I wrote: the lens should not have the greater movement once it mounted. I didn't mentioned as same as didn't disagree your lens had a movement, you may have it but not on mine.

Yes , it's a real simple factor as I said camera bodies and lenses are all difference, take it or not is depend on each type and your personality, and I didn't take it as seriously as you had your thoughts and I never want to offend you cos it's never benefited me in doing that way.

I did write "not the 70-200VR" and more explains to follow with the movement may caused problems if it was happened. I didn't have experiences of it on my camera bodies so that what I wrote in my post.

Hey Paul,
I got from a bloke in North Sydney ddphotographics, who runs from his home office. I got the Nikon USA stock (I assume because it has a tiny Nikon USA sticker) around 2350 Ex Gst. He also provide tax invoice as I required it to get GST back when i go overseas this month.

He also says he now found a good supplier who can supply them constantly.

Damn the weather doesn't look pormising for the weekend though . I did manage some shots last night in my room. My god this lense is sharp, I think it is definetly sharper then the 6MP D70s i have. Cause I can almost read the tiny micro print on a $50 note, if it wasn't a bit pixelated.

Very interesting gMaster, I've seen this guys website before and was curious about it.
Some of his prices are very good although some are a bit bizzare as well.
I might give this guy a ring and check his stock situation. :)

Yes, the "cheap" lens here means = consumer lens.

The brand new 70-200VR never play any movements on my cameras and I wrote it as the truth from my experiences with all the camera body which I have.

It did not have any meaning or contents any offence to you as telling you're liar. Can I tell the truth from my experiences or not?

Same as fozzie mentioned: no wobble with his lens as well! and huynhie also mentioned in both yes and no.

So why did you take it seriously and attacked me as you mentioned? I had nothing to do with my comments, just try to give in some ideas which may not apply to you but maybe it'll be applied to some other members.

Pls. note: the reply is for all not for one solely soul on this board and if you don't like it or it's not suited you, just stir it away your mind!

Marcus, as I read it Birddog is describing his experiences on his cameras. That is the benefit of our membership here we can share the experience of others without spending the money or time. I don't think he is highlighting any one individual in describing his experiences.

That said obviously some connections have more movement than others. Mine doesn't wobble, Kippers does. On D2 bodies (which are pro) it doesn't wobble. The D70 was the cheapest, entry level camera with corresponding mount quality so it is not unexpected to wobble on some samples, more so with age or use. No one doubts the accuracy of your comments. Birddog is not saying anything about you or doubting the veracity of your comments. He is saying that on a pro body (as a standard) a pro lens usually doesn't wobble. Where a consumer lens on a consumer body is more likely to wobble.

Lets play the ball not the man in discussions on this board.

Well yeah, but birddog stated "but not on the brand new VR70-200" in relation to my post.
As I understand it, he is saying the brand new 70-200VR would not move as I had stated it did. Or am I missing something here?

Birddog, I'll PM you instead of annoying everyone else here..sorry all whom have been annoyed

Hey Marcus...
I think that BD was simply stating that it probably wasn't the fault of the 70-200VR that it wobbled... BD was implying that it was more likely to be the D70 body that was the problem... I don't think anyone was accusing anyone of lying...
Either way, it's probably not something to get so annoyed about...

Marcus,
Again and again, I mentioned it and it's my cases, if you don't feel it's yours then you're happy with it, the latest owner of the lens 70-200VR didn't see it wobble on his camera, so am I + few others, please don't take it so personally and accussed me as you did. I have the right to express my experiences same as other. It's so funny! when someone tries to tell the truth then will be attacked, it's not the way how people treat other on this board.

Guys, take it easy...we all joined this forum to share experiences and knowledge/understanding from our own experiences.... lets just leave it at that. If you don't agree with someone fine, let it be known (if you feel its necessary) but but let it go.

All this he said, she said, they said rubbish is going to ruin what is otherwise excellent forum.

In Sydney at least its a bueat day, lets get out and start shooting...!! :)
