Just want to know who has a D2hs?

The D2X is out of my price range, was thinking about getting the D2hs. Will be making prints up to 20"x15" max.

The D2h and the D2hs are the same, it's just minor upgraded from the D2h.

You can making print more larger than the 20x15 without any problem, eventhough it's 4MP.

Shutterbug, just wait for a D200. What are you going to be using the D2H for?
If it's for anything other than Sports, Nature or anything else that requires the fast shutter speed and fast focusing then I say you're wasting your time.

Yeah, I know you mostly shoot weddings Vince. Love your work. The D70 should do for now shouldn't it? Nothing is really moving that fast at weddings, except for facial expressions.

The D70 is Ok, I also use the Fuji S2. I was capturing my kiddies on some film on the weekend with my F100, the focus was soooo fast. I just miss the AF speed.

Once the D200 is announced, its files are not small!
You'll retire all your 512Mb or 1Gb CF card.

In South Korea D2hs price dropped by more than AUD 1000 yesterday. Now it costs around AUD3600. No one is sure why, some say there are too much stock and it's not selling well, some say the importer is worried that once D200 comes out it will not sell at all.

Anyway, if you need 8fps then see if the same thing happens elsewhere. If you don't need 8fps, I think we'd better wait for D200. Latest rumor is that it will be released this year

No sale of D2Hs here in Australia, the D2Hs is gone dead since it's released, for the money people pay for the D2Hs, they can save up for the D2x with ton of features and benefits.
The release of D200, once it's released then it's released, no one can firmly confirmed its contents, features, benefits, but surely it's a long way before people can put their hands on it. Rumors are rumors
Get what you can now and go out shooting.

I have just purchased a D2Hs (see other thread) and I have read that the D2Hs is becoming very rare in the US. At a base price of $3,500US the advent of the D200 would make the D2Hs a dangerous pricepoint in regard to the D200. The D200 can’t be featured as well as the D2X so it’s pricepoint would be very much in the D2Hs range - one has to remember that the D2H was, and is still, very much a pro camera for sport and PJ along with the D2Hs.

The D2Hs has been given many of the D2X refinements including 12bit (8bit in the D2H) and as such will still prove to be a much sought after camera for those not printing 20x30” prints

Chris I'd probably like the camera for the raw speed but I think it's way overpriced.

The D2hs is becoming very popular with wedding photographers for the small file size.

Small file but it can print larger as poster size! no doubt with my D2h.

Fair enough. I guess the smaller file size = more photos on a CF and less image processing.

However if you were setup for the job where you wanted the work flow to be 4MP as it was easier you could have a machine setup to handle batch jobs.

eg. insert portable drive and run an app/script on the machine that takes all nefs/jpeg off the drive to a directory that you specify, renames them chronologically and resamples them down to 4MP.


Out of interest I said chronologically, do you guys do that have your files renamed to date/time? Just thought it might make it easier to quickly jump to certain stages of the wedding.

Nice to here it from you Birddog, Starting to do some research on my next purchase. My Fuji S2 is getting old, still works great but, hopefully it will last this session of heavy shooting. Also use the D70's, they are great too. My wedding season starts this weekend, fully booked until Chrissy

I use 3 bodies, so I sync the camera clock and sort by time when it is downloaded.

Thought you might do something like that as Weddings/Receptions are pretty chronological event wise. If it's got a planner doing the Wedding they probably have a schedule that you can use to roughly work out when events were.

Not sure if the D70 has a sync function, haven't tried using direct camera control

All my camera (and voice-recorder) files get renamed to include date/time. The format I currently use is:

YYYYMMDDhhmm_uniqueID.ext

This happens as they're copied from CF card (or PSD). The ID is a prefix + counter which thus guarantees each filename will be unique even if generated on different machines. The ID is propagated to the final files (and prints, invoices, etc) so customers always have an identifier to use rather than "that nice image of the owl I bought 3 years ago".
Having the date/time in there just makes it easy to sort the files in a directory. Once the files get imported into iView they can be sorted by capture time anyway, but having it in the filename also is just more flexible.

Hooking all the devices up to the laptop every now and then and synchronising their clocks is important. Synchronising them by hand is tedious and not very accurate.

The problem I have with date/time is that I had incorrectly set date/time when I was in europe
