my 1st sensor clean......well, I received my Copperhill Cleaning Kit on Monday and last night I conducted my very first CCD clean. All went very well, though there are still a couple of really small dustbunnies lingering (but I'm sure they'll come off in future cleans).
The sensor is so much cleaner than it was. There was a terrible "smudge-like" mark on the sensor that has now gone. Not sure how that ever got there ?!? For all those that are contemplating cleaning your own sensor, or too paranoid about doing it yourself......IT IS EASY ! Just make sure you read all the instructions first, and then dive on in..... I don't know what people are so worried about Dave

It can be done with steam bath in the massage parlour or in the bathtub

Good onya Dave, not hard at all just all a bit of a fuss at first try. I infact have changed, i am not fussy to find the roo,m with the lest dust in ect... i started out doing it all on a tripod, but now i do here in my dusty lounge room at my desk here, camera in left hand home made rubber spatular in other and no fuss.
My Reasons: I seen the Nikon service guy clean mine when i was in Adelaide and took advantage of the free clean from maxwel, did it right there in his office/work bench infront of me so i realised i was fussing for nothing. I still do take care but, i will wipe, put lens on take couple of tets shots if still grotty another pec pad do it again till i get it near perfect and if i have a couple of small spots i leave till next time. thanks for your post BBJ. I just did it in the lounge room, on a coffee table. I wouldn't look to do it where there is obvious visible dust flying about in the air, but I guess as long as you put the lens back on in a resonable time after cleaning, it shouldn't get too dirty. And any dust that did get in there should come out with a simple blow of air (with any luck).
I'm sure most of us have the preconceived idea that Nikon service guys are wearing sterilised suits & work in a vacuum to clean our sensors.....but in real life, they'd just do it out on the nearest countertop (and wash their hands first - if we're really lucky) Dave

So True, Dave i stopped being so fussy fidling around with the tripod and trying to not to get it wrong, but like all once you have done it a few times it is so simple as long as you follow the basics.

G'day Dave,
Well done mate. I was always too bloody paranoid to do mine until when using a blower I think I blew more dust from around the body onto the sensor glass and had to do it Wasn't that bad after all huh? Aka Andrew
Re: my 1st sensor clean...

Re: my 1st sensor clean...
You can get the kit to Australia from the copperhillimages website without eclipse. You can either purchase eclipse online in Melbourne of if you come to a melbourne meet, I will give you some methanol for free. Alex
Re: my 1st sensor clean...Steve75,

When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
congrats on the first clean
best way to learn is to come to a mini meet, watch Matt give the demo and be shocked at how much of an anti climax it is (big thanks to Matt!!) how tempting is it to do a second swab...and then a third....just one miniscule spec left...then a fourth.... once you have the first one out of the way you'll become a wet clean junkie!!
Re: my 1st sensor clean...
thanks for posting this Fozzie....in my absence Dave
