Hey Everyone,

Need some advice, my brother is a dentist and is currently looking o purchase a camera, with a specialist macro lens to take pictures of teeth, he does cosmetic dentistry so I suppose before and after photos..mainly for presentations....

A friend of his has the following gear:
- Canon Powerhost G5
- a Closep difuser and macro lens or the G5 (Photo ptj medical macro cu
lens) and Occlusal mirrors.

Apparently this is a reasonable setup.

He was wondering what Nikon have ?... given that he wants to spend as little as possible (like most of us :), and doesn't want to spend a lot of time setting it up....

Im thinking a D50 body with some sort of specialist macro lens.....?

Opinions?

D50 - 60mm Nikon micro - ringflash (would suggest the Sigma EM140)

Just as a by the way - a dentist not wanting to spend money - they certainly know how to charge

There is a specialist dental lens, old, have seen them second hand, from a fuzzy memory might be 200/4 or similar

200mm 5.6, comes with built in ring flash.

Details: http://www.cameraquest.com/nf200med.htm

Just imagine trying to let your dentist stick that in your mouth. No thanks! There was one for sale in Maxwell's Lighter Reading a few months back

I have a Fuji S7000 (bought before the D70) the macro and close up on this camera really is exceptional.

12mp and XD as well as CF and the price won't kill him either. It's almost a point and shoot with a little more quality.

Regards

T

ps I'm not selling my Fuji

anub, the Nikon equivalent to the Sigma 105 is the Nikon 105. They may be packaging the Sigma with it due to cost considerations. I have the Sigma 105, no teeth marks or anything else on it to make it a standout for dental use.

He definately wants something with a ring flash.

Canon 20D, Canon 100mm Macro, Canon ring flash - perfect setup. There's a few dentists on a Canon site I visit that have this setup and are very happy with it.

Ring-flash is the best light source in this type of shot (no shadows).

Thanks Dion, but dont think he will pay for a 20D, I even think a D50 is pushing it....may settle for a G6 Kit. We will see.

thanks again.... :)

My endodontist in Brisbane charges $600 per hour, dead set. I'm changing professions...

The ring flash will work with the Powershot series.
