Question on SB600 battery life

Postby ozimax on Thu Sep 15, 2005 9:22 am

I've just finished a set of alkaline batteries (Duracell standard) on my new SB600. I got somewhere between 600-700 shots. For the last day of usage it was getting down to slow recycle times (20 secs) which of course means that they're on the way out, but methinks this is outstanding performance from the little flash.

Is this similar to the SB800?

EGADS MAN - buy some NIMH AA's and a charger. You're just throwing money and waste into the bin with those alkalines ! The recycle time with NIMH batteries will blow you away. I think my slowest recycle from full power is about 3 secs - many times Waaaaaay less than that when you don't use full power.

The only issue with rechargables is that they tend to die (at the end of each charge) without a lot of notice, so you'll need to carry spares. You'll more than get your money back though when you consider how much those alkalines cost to buy and throw away !

Cheers

Justin

P.S. - oh yeah, and I hear Birddog has these available too !

Point taken Justin, I just couldn't be bothered carrying another charger around the world's airports with me. I already have to lug several chargers:

1 x Laptop and associated cords etc
2 x mobile phone chargers
1 x sleep apnea machine (so I don't die, well, die earlier than I want to..)
Various voltage adaptors
1 x ipod charger (soon to be)
Where does it all end?

Get a Targus charger with variation of plugs size, can be use in car, boat, plane (commercial) home with AC.
Or another aftermarket multivoltage charger + multi plugs.

I second that !

I purchased the Energizer Charger with 4 x 2500mAh batteries and they are fantastic. You can also charge odd numbered batteries as well, so you don't have to charge in pairs (which some chargers can only do)....so for those that run 5 batteries, you don't have to charge a 6th.

I have heard though that the 2300mAh are supposed to recycle faster, (you'd be talking fractions of a second - which is bugger all), but the 2500's last that little bit longer.

You should be able to get decent 2500mAh batts for around $5 each (give or take $5    )

Hey Dave

Where did you purchase these from? Can only seem to find 2030 NiMH's.

Cheers

I can't remember if I got them from Kmart or Big W.....it was a while ago.
I saw them in Coles once but the store I go to have now swapped them over with the "quick Charger" which isn't the same one (I think).
