Paranoia - 2 PSDs?

I currently use 2x 2GB CF cards (used to have another 1GB and 512MB but they got pickpocketed in Sweden ...).
My last big trip I was able to take my laptop with me and burn CDs. I had a copy on the HDD and a copy on CD. However I don't think I will do that anymore as a laptop is a lot of hassle (but it is convenient, no doubt about that).
I am however paranoid about data loss, having suffered it twice recently. One time it was my own drive, and I had a backup. The other was my work laptop, and it was a case of all data gone ...
So while I like the idea of a PSD, having all my photos on one, fragile hard disk is a concern. So I'm thinking of buying two, and different brands at that. Am I suffering a severe case of paranoia?
I am looking at the Vosonic VP3320 as drive 1, and a PD70x as drive 2.
I have thought about buying a USB host device and just buy two normal external HDDs, but they are not able to be battery powered so they operate only in tethered mode (hotel or wherever).
The VP3320 also appeals as it can do double duty as an MP3 player.
