G'day gang, lookin to buying a Laptop for downloading pics from my Camera , editing pics via PS etc etc..
Now what i would like to know is minimum requirements to what would be required of a resonable unit tomaintain speed and also do whats needed without bogging down at all..
Also any accessories i should be chasing with it..
can see i'n no PC guru hence my askingfor the advice ..

Tell us your budget and it iwll make this process lots easier

As well as budget also indicate how you plan to use the lapotop. Is it always going to be in easy reach of a wall socket (in which case battery life is not vitally important) or do you intend to travel with it extensively (in which case size/weight is important). If your planning to run Photoshop then memory (1GB is what I would be looking at) and to a lesser extent (on slightly lesser) CPU are going to be key factors here. Also is there any thing else aside from photography you are wanting to do with the unit?

Seriously, I've used both for photo editing, and it's fine. Both extremely portable machines.

I am on my 12inch powerbook in London. When my new toy arrives on Sunday I am out and about to test the new unit along with my new close up filters.......when I am away I do my processing using Photoshop CS2 on the laptop with no worries.........

Budget , 2.5k to 3k max....

for the sake of adding weight to the argument, I am using a 12" iBook (1.2GHz) and I am loving it. I had it custom made with an 80 Gig hard drive and 756 MB of RAM and it is good for working with most apps.

I use a Lexar FireWire card reader to download images to the iBook (transfer rate is about 500MB per minute) and using CS2 with Bridge I am able to edit NEFs in the field directly off the CF card. The colours are great on the screen too.

The price on the basic unit is $1599 and with the addition of half a gig of RAM it is good for anything. You wil also find that the iMac can be used with a PC environment although with time you will realise how good mac is and convert to the system (I have to use both however I prefer Mac).

Hokeydokey, back again .Well went and bought me an LG Notebook/laptop or whatever ya prefer to call em and it burns n turns, has extractors, turbocharged and whatever but have one weeny littly problem with it . The monitor throws back some reflectance if theres backlighting or fluro overhead and to the rear a wee bit..okay of one wants to use it as a mirror to comb their hair but found it a tad frustrating for minor editing of photos.
rang the seller this morning and he said it quite normal of all new laptop monitors with ultra bright / ultra clear screens..
This correct or a sales pitch??, need to know awfully quick whilst still bit of a cooling off period if this is going to be damn annoying...
Or?????? is there something i can do to remedy this annoyance?/.apart from chuckin it out the window lol..
