Help with lens that wont fully retract

Hi All,

I have only had my D70 2 weeks – so this may be a dumb question.
When I finish shooting with my newly acquired Tamron 70-300 lens, I attempt to fully retract the lens using the zoom ring.
My problem is that the lens will retract to about ½ an inch out and then stop.
Sometimes if I zoom in and out several times it will eventually allow me to fully retract the lens – othertimes not.
If I switch the camera to manual focus – I can retract the lens no problems.
Is this a problem with the lens? – the camera? – some obscure setting?

Any help appreciated

John

I have noticed that my Tamron 70-300 has a tendency to get a bit obstinant if the macro switch has been activated. Macro will only work between 150mm and 300mm, so if macro is on, you can't unzoom below 150 mm. I have experienced a bit of difficulty switching macro off, and sometimes need to remove the lens first, then un macro, then unzoom.

I need to have a closer look to see why this is so.

Is macro involved?

Thanks Greg,

now that you mention it - this problem started to occur after I experimented with a few macro shots the other night - I have however switched macro off since - maybe i need to remove the lens and see if that makes any difference.
