If it's a series of shots in the same room, with the same lighting, I'll generally stay away from auto and set to 'flash'. I've found that if you have multiple different light sources in a room, and you're moving around taking shots picking up different light sources, including the speedlight, that auto can give unpredictable results with the change in lighting.
If anything, purposely setting to 'flash' gives you a 'standard' to do all your PP work off, which will be roughly the same for that room.
Also assume the use of .NEF (RAW) as well.....
