It's not mentioned in the manual at all so I was wondering if anyone has had any thoughts since this thread was originally posted?
This is called the "Flash
X-Sync" -- it will sync your shutter mechanism to the fastest flash sync possible without creating a shadow on the image. This is used when using the camera with non-FP compatible flashes, such as slave flashes and/or external strobes/studio flashes. This value can be changed to slower via the menu option in "flash sync" and maximum for D200 is 1/250, and AUTO-FP is only compatible with Nikon flashes only I believe.
