SB-800 Help

Hi there,
I've been playing around with my SB-800 today in an attempt to gain a greater understanding on how to use it..
I noticed that when you adjust either the ISO speed or Appature on the camera the distance on the SB-800's display changes. This of course makes perfect sence as adjusting those things adjusts the amount of light hitting the sensor during the exposure...
However when adjusting shutter speed the distance information doesn't change at all (camera in full manual mode here). Shouldn't the shutter speed also affect the distance the flash is effective for?
What shutter speed is 'default' on the flash.... so if it was 1/60 I could work out that if I use 1/120 (or so) the flash would work effectively at only half the distance??
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks
Paul
