Does anyone know much about the above lens.

My Stepdad is looking to buy a D70s and he wants to know how it will work. I would expect no metering and definately no AF (manual focus lens)

He probably means the AI-S Birdie.

I wonder what the optical quality is like on the old girl!

Birdie 10K posts are definately within your reach now. Then what? :D

The AI-S will work on the D70 but if he has a good eyesight then it's OK otherwise he will suffer.

I have one of these - and use it on the D70 now and again. It makes an excellent portrait lens, I think the optical quality is pretty good. Mine is about a 1987 vintage, made in Japan, and metal construction. I understand the current model plastic bodied AF lens is the same optical design. The big aperture makes focussing a bit easier with the D70's rather dim finder!

Cheers

Heath, tell him to be very very very careful when mounting. The very old F mounts don't fit. Get the serial number and I can probably work out if it will fit. My guess is not.

Stuart,
It is probably this lens which is often referred to as the S model (for obvious reasons). This lens is not suitable to go on a DSLR, damage will result.

mental note, after seeing this image, too many halogens in the office to take photos with

Chris, my lenses get a suntan regularly, no fungus on them   Might be a little bit of fungus on the old owner though
