Nikkor 50mm F1.4 AF second hand price?

Postby ozimax on Fri Sep 30, 2005 11:42 pm

Found one of these in Brisbane trading post yesterday, supposedly pristine condition, asking $300. Is this a fair second hand price for this portrait lens? Thanks.

Hi Ozimax,

Just won 50 f 1.4 on Ebay. Never used (as new) - claimed but will receive on Monday. Paid $270 for it. So, $300 is fair if condition 'as new', I think.

Thanks Alex, I know I can get 50mm 1.8 in USA for about $100 USD and get my son to ship out from California but from what I've read, the 1.4 is a sharp, well made lens.

Birddog's NEW price is $400...

I guess it depends how much you are willing to gamble on eBay...

Thanks John, when put that way, I think new with warranty is best, and the SH is most probably a bit overpriced.

I, too, was in the market for a 50mm 1.4.

I weighed up the second hand vs new vs no warranty vs Birdy warranty vs dealing with unknown vs dealing with Birdy and guess which side won??

My new lens just arrived in Birdy's hands from HK and will be in mine early next week. I sleep easy knowing I've got the best lens at a very good price from a reputable dealer with great service. Peace of mind is worth the extra dollars to me.

:)

PS: No, I'm not on commission! I don't think Birdy's margin is wide enough to afford me!

Simon I have a 50 1.4 I bought from BD and although I haven't used it nearly as much as a good photographer should I have been very happy with purchase price from BD and output of the lens. I too looked at the 1.8 vs 1.4 debate and said I may as well spend the extra and be happy with the purchase and what I have read since (and elsewhere on the forum) has confirmed my original choice. There is one thread of a French comparison of the two lens which was very good, I don't have it to hand but it is elsewhere on the forum if anyone wishes to look.

That's great Michael, I'm pleased you like it. I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about this lens and I'm certainly itching to get my hands on it!

Thanks, John. Looking forward to getting it on Monday. How are you going with 80-200 f2.8? Happy with it?

Love it. Tried it out last weekend. It is very sharp. Bought a UV filter for it from Birdy this week, so I feel a bit happier now it's protected.
