I'm continually getting noise in my shots using the D70 with kit lens, 50mm, 28mm, 35-80 etc.

Does anyone else suffer this? I post to a couple of stock photography sites and they are continually rejecting shots for noise. I realise you can reduce etc using packages such as Noise Ninja and so on BUT it shouldn't be there in the first place.

My histograms appear reasonably ok, exposures ok, Auto WB and also over ride to manual, Auto exposure and apeture exposure have all been used. Is there a setting on my camera which may be causing excessive noise?

I have just puchased a CPL for the kit lens which reduces the noise in the sky but there is still some in the shadow/darker areas.

I really need to establish as to whether it is my technique or perhaps a problem with the camera.

All information greatly appreciated.

Might seem like an obvious questions but what are your ISO settings on these shots with noise?

I only ever shoot as ISO 200 and generally RAW files.
On the odd occassion that I use JPG always at highest resolution

I don't have a D70 but unless you are shooting at high ISO, long shutter speeds or low light situations the D70 is reported have low noise levels, certainly not like you are experiencing.

I will have to let the more experienced D70 owners take this one on board.

The usual cause of excessive noise in images is very simple - underexposure.

And noise makes itself very evident in those areas of an image that are underexposed.

Please post a couple of example images so that we can see, but my first thoughts are that I would be verifying that my exposure is spot on., and that I'm not trying to extend the contrast range too far.

At lower ISO's I would expect images from the D70 to be pretty clean, unless you're upping brightness in under-exposed areas of the pic or sharpening aggressively etc.

I use higher ISO's a bit when trying to take shots of moving animals, or when the light's low... I've used up to about 800-1000 at times and only notice the noise if I tend to brighten up shadow areas in PP or sharpen fairly agressively etc., at about 400ISO it seems fine so 200 should be good and clean. Are you doing much levels/curves/brightness sort of stuff in PP?
