Hey Guys,
Taking lightning shots are courageous and have to ask yourself twice: Is it worth before to do it:

Seems like a safe enough hobby. Especially if you're a bright spark

What's there to worry about, my D70 is mainly plastic, all I need is a plastic tripod and rubber boots.

That's why storm chasers usually dont "core punch" - it's generally to be avoided for safety reasons.

I saw the unpublisshed pics of the 4WD that lady was driving when she was killed by the falling branch. Not fun.

We're in for the most severe storm season we've seen in over a decade. Provided we play it safe, the chance of being hurt is minimal. Just driving a car to work and home every day is statistically far more dangerous.

I learned that the hard way too. :)

Never stand under a microwave tower or other high metal objects during a storm. (Not that i had any choice at the time) as a result i have lost 30 seconds of my life. I don't know where it went, just a blank spot between a bright flash and bang and waking up on the floor 30 metres away with a sore arm. But that was in Darwin where they have +30,000 lightning strikes a year.

you sure it was only 30seconds of blackout? Sounds like a very quick recovery!

most friends of mine who have either been struck by lightning or electrocuted now have issues with their bodies seemingly giving off lots of interference with tv reception and lights blowing and other weird unexplainable stuff. Any of that apply to you? I was hooked up to 240volts for 2 minutes one day and was very lucky to come out of that intact. depending on where I sit in a room we wont be able to get most tv channels at home. lol
