Hi all.

Just wanted to congratulate you on the way your forum is run. I'm a new D70 owner and forum member and I have learned so much from these threads in a short period of time. I haven't quite caught up yet with all the posts but I'm ploughing through them whenever time allows.

What most impresses me is the spirit of support and comeraderie that exists here. The moment someone comes up with a fresh tip, a bargain or a new persepctive on a problem it's out there for everyone to share. Even when you're having at go at each other there is no malice or ill feeling, Canon owners exempted!

So... keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to a long association with my favourite toy and this brilliant forum.

Welcome, and thanx for the kind words. I'm (obviously) happy to entertain posts such as your's, but equally happy to listen to criticism. Even from the odd Canon user. There's an appropriate term if ever I've seen one.

Please do post some of your images; we would love to see them, and if you're worried that they're not good enough, please, don't be, but think in terms of the posting of your images as an opportunity to improve your photographic skills.

Welcome Manta, There is a lot of wood ducks here and we do get a few now and then, but great people, we are just 1 big happy family that is expanding, and a wealth of information.
Anyhow didn't want to post any ducks shot but i do have some!!lol
But here's some pelicans at play. Just imagine that they are bigger ducks.

Manta shares another hobby of mine (geocaching), so it's quite coincidental to find him here...

But anyway greetings from another D70 newbie... My first impressions are that this is a great forum and I'll learn a lot from all present...
I used to spend a lot of time on photography when I had a Canon A-1 (sorry for the C word!)...
After transitioning thru many P&S cameras (film & digital) - I've finally made my way back to a decent camera and hope to explore it's and my capabilities over the coming years...

Hope to post some decent photos soon...

Not sure we should allow this - they look too much like ducks!

I'm a new D70 owner having had the camera for about 10 days. I would say Melbourne is home, but I do get to travel around a bit due to my employment.


Unfortunately , I haven't been able to fully exploit my camera yet - a long story courtesy of some broken glass on a window...
I had been burgled, came home, saw some glass on the floor and without thinking/realising that I'd been robbed or that there might be a broken window pane, lifted up the curtains. A shard hit me on the hand and voila! I'd severed a tendon and part of another, cut a nerve and hacked up the abductor muscle under the base of my left thumb. All this makes it very hard to use the focus and zoom rings on the lens and I can't seem to hold the camera for lond periods of time, not to mention the horrific camera shake (I'm seriously thinking about the 120VR lens).


HOWEVER, life isn't all that bad, I had insurance so almost everything was replaced (besides a couple of heirlooms and numerous video archives), I haven't lost full function of my thumb and I still have family, friends & finances - there aint much more that I need.

The only frustrating thing is having to restrict how I do things and slow down my rate of activity. I don't mind the challenge of learning how to use my hand and also the challenges of rehab. It is going to take 6-10 months for me to recover fully (i.e. shoot some decent handheld shots) so I hope to learn and participate.

It depends. If you're comfy with the old thread's content, by all means go for it. In some ways it's better, because it shows that you're researching what's gone before, rather than just asking the same old questions without looking for the answers first.

OUCH!! That's gotta hurt. Hope you are on the way to recovery and you are not out of action for too long!
