Magneflash test shots

I have taken 2 shots to illustrate the Magneflash. I will take more but this is the initial test.

Both pics were shot at f/4.5 on the kit lens at 1/60th sec. For the Magneflash test the internal flash on the D70 was set to 1/16th power manual with a IR filter place over the flash head. The camera was attached to a Manfrotto dual flash macro bracket with the Magneflash mounted on the left hand side.

The shot without the Magneflash was done with the internal flash of the D70 set to iTTL.

There has been some PP and the shots have been cropped.

Chris,
My choice is with the i-TTL flash than the Magneflash, the colour in the first is more true than the second isn't it?

The one with the Magneflash seems less harsh. It does not look like a flash has been used, while it is obvious that the flash has been used on the first pic.

The Magneflash however is probably better suited to subjects close to the camera.

Hi Chris

I think the Magnaflash does a good job of providing diffused light, which results in a more three-dimensional pic.

I can't tell about the colours, but it could just be that you would need to preset a WB for the Magnaflash if those colours aren't quite accurate.

Should be good for portraits. :)

Hi all

This was a very quick test and will try to get more tests done soon

Birdie - colour wise you are right
tsanglabs - the Magneflash is ideal for macro work (the test I will try next)
cricketfan - spot on
atencati - don’t know why I used a clown coz they scare the sh@t out of me to

I just loked at the Magneflash web site, and it referred me to a review by Steve's digicams.
The review said that the colour temp of the Magneflash is 5600K, the same as daylight.
But, the D70's daylight WB setting is actually 5200K. To achieve 5600K you would have to select either Direct Sunlight -3; or Flash -1.
Or, just preset, as we discussed before.
I'm impressed with this thing.
Hope you have success with it. :)
