This is a fascinating site of photographs from the American Civil War. One has to remember that these photos were taken over 140 years ago - prior to the D70

Chris,
You sound almost apologetic for the photos, but if you ask me 99% of todays so called photographers wouldn't hold a candle to those of 100 years ago. Not only did they have to work out exposures etc. using crude instruments by today's standards, but the studio lighting they set up was absolutely brilliant.

I actually agree 100% Phillip - when you consider what we have today to take our pics then you have to admire what was obtained with absolutely primitive equipment by these pioneers of photography. In recent times we have seen war first hand on the TV (Vietnam War) and I remember the media blurb saying that this was the first time war had been seen as it happened - I say it first happened in 1860!!! Maybe not exactly live but there are shots of battles actually happening . . .

Mark - it’s even more amazing when you consider that they all had to remain absolutely still

Yeah, and here we are thinking that we can't get by without VR.

No D70's. True.
But I did spot a couple .... ah.... Cannon's.
