I've pretty much blown my budget on an SB800, 50mm 1.4 (backordered (Anybody have any info? on those worldwide)) and an 85mm 1.8 (next week).

Realizing that I have GOT to get a better tripod, but ....
is the Bogen - Manfrotto 3199N - with 3030 Rapid Connect Pan Tilt Head worth considering? or should I just wait and keep saving until I can move up to a better one. I'll love to drop half a grand or more on this, but the wife would .....

Thanks for the benefit of your collective knowledge, guys!!!

Matey,

the 3119 package may be abit too small for the D70. You'll end up upgrading the leg very soon.

I suggest that you look at the Manfrotto 3021 legs as it is abit sturdier and is only a tiny bit more expensive

You have a choice: $1500 or $1000

$1500=$500 worth of crap tripod + one good system
$1000= one good system ;)

SoCal Steve,

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you and your impressive shopping - no wonder the budget is shot quote 'SB800, 50mm 1.4 (backordered (Anybody have any info? on those worldwide)) and an 85mm 1.8 (next week)' unquote.

There are some lenses in the 'Bargin' section that are in either short supply or out of stock and from memory I can not recall whether the 50mm F/1.4 is one of them.

I personally would wait and get the setup you want, rather than buying something inferior, then having to sell it at a reduced price :( .

Goodbye for now,
:)

Seems like a tripod might be an area where used equipment could be a viable option.

Any thoughts or things to look for if I was to go that route? Considering a good, major brand and quality, of course.

Any parts that might show excessive wear or anything like that?

Steve,

Might pay you to have a look at B&Hphoto or Tristate to see if they have secondhand tripod/head  . I know that B&Hphoto sell secondhand filters. Leave you to follow up.

ta ta for now,
:)
