I thought I'd ask this outside of the mods & admins area just so I can gauge if people really want this...

Personally, I find the prospect of looking at 50 posts on a page a dismal sight. Many of our members - administrators with tempers included - quote to such a ridiculous amount of literary slaughter that it makes you wonder why they don't replace the entire field with the words "snip! - read above". This put together with the incredibly chaotic and messy fifty posts drives me up the wall.

And I cannot except that I am not the only one.

Who here would prefer it at 25 posts per page... you know like how it used to be?

I don't mind the 50

I guess it might be more important with limited-speed connectivity.
If anything I find it frustrating to have to flip over to multiple pages in turn rather than just scroll down/up one page.

If it was going to be changed, ideally it would be a preference each user can tweak in his/her Board Preferences.

That would be nice, but it's not a feature of the software.

There were complaints last year that 25 was too few, and so, when we upgraded at the start of the year, 50 was chosen as the number to go with. It's an easy change, but the question then becomes "what is the correct number?".

Some like 25, others 50, others .... ???

While I don't particularly like polls, perhaps this is a valid use for one? I am open to suggestions.

I think 50 is fine.. I rather read all in one page than to flip through page by page due to my short attention span

However I can feel the pain if your internet was capped or on a 56k modem.

I do think that 25 was too few and fifty suits me fine.

How about we compromise and go 37.5 ?

Although only new to the forum ie: beggining of this year, and not experienced the 25 post format I feel the 50 post per page works well as I to would rather scroll one page than flick through more.

nifty fifty is good

To be honest aside from bandwidth constraints I can't think of a single reason to have less posts per page. Once you have more than 3-4 on most monitors you are scrolling, so the only question is how long it takes before you stop scrolling and have to load a new page. I'd rather just keep rolling that mouse wheel than have to click over a page, make 1000 for me!

Yeah i'm putting a vote in for 50 too. In fact sometimes i want to have the whole thread on one page. There's a few reasons but I'm a bit busy to give them all right now Maybe I'm just weird

I prefer to scroll rather than turn the page- 50 for me.

47 posts - prime numbers are better.

A while back I wanted to build a forum for something so went hunting at what was around in the open source/cheap as sphere given it was just for play. Threading is not something I've ever seen available in that range. A long time back I was very active on an IT forum that was threaded and it really was great. They used an expensive 3rd party system though.

I have a few times got excited and thought about writing one, but I lack the skills, commitment and time to do it properly.

Yeah, threaded view is really handy when you just want to see what the latest post in a thread was, or jump to the post from a search result. I had most experience using IPB where I'd constantly switch between threaded / non-threaded views depending on how recent a thread was.

Being a bandwidth conscious sys admin, anything that'll speed up page draws and cut down on bandwidth is good to me, thus my 25 posts vote heh.

By the way, I see quote being used judiciously on this board compared to others. On one UW photography board I frequent, there are some people who will quote the entire first post when making only the second post to the thread. I have no idea what purpose that serves.

Things must be pretty good in this forum if we are even discussing this, some forums would struggle to get 10 posts to any thread let alone 50. BTW 50 is ok with me.
