Very interesting with vertical shutter buttons and holding AA battery

http://www.hkjenis.com/English/Esbxl3.html (be patient, it's slow)

If this's real, it'll change your way of shooting in portrait mode.

If this is real it would be great! Though as you caution Birddog, its not likely real it would be a world first, and there were a lot of problems with getting a remote shutter release which haave been highlighted by everyone from Harbor Electronics, through the D70 users group in the states making plain ones to Mr Chimpanzee in Korea.

Interesting when you look at the picture of the Jenis factory on their website, one could be forgiven for thinking that they had taken a photo of a unit block and photoshopped their name on the side. Or you could just think that they are generous employers who have provided a balcony for every office in their factory :?

Group buy, group buy!! :)

Whoever comes out with a D70 vertical grip will get my business. Even if there's no additional functionality (eg. shutter release), just for pose value alone it'll be worth it. :D

Onyx, there is already one available for about $70us. It is from a d70 users group in the states and is made by one of their members who is a boat builder. No electronic functionality but looks nice. Will see if I can find the url for you

That was harbour tronics... not yet to market. They're having teething problems. Also http://www.cameragrips.com the website is not resolving.

Hello,

I figured what the heck, I got time to kill, I'll call Nikon USA and ask about a battery grip.....and the answer is....

no plans for a D70 grip, actually not possible as it was not in the design plans for this model (no connector in the battery bay for a shutter release)

I wonder if they know others are working on it already??????

atencati - I believe Harbourtronics http://www.harbortronics.com/news.htm have implemented vertical shutter via IR remote, or hardwire mod - permanently modding the camera body. They've even released a PDF of it on the Fuji S2 and D70. http://www.harbortronics.com/BodyMod.pdf

Multiple Power Configurations

The VG-D70 can accomodate one or two EN-EL3 batteries (standard D70 battery). The grip also includes a standard DC power jack (industry standard!) for use with external power supplies, large battery packs, etc. This jack is protected against reverse polarity and overvoltage.

I'd buy one when they finish developing it for this functionality alone :)

Just got a reply from Mark at Harbortronics, they are sourcing some custom parts and are looking to produce in the Begining of November. I to would buy it just for the battey and chrger functions alone. If they figure out how to implement a vertical shutter, all the better.
