RRS BD-70 Body Plate, it can be only used in landscape mode

**Why don't you buy the BD70-L, the L plate will let you mount your cam on the Markin 10 and shoot in Landscape or portrait mode and it replaced the Quick released plate**

If this is the case then no where in the world you can find this 1325 CF at that price, it's the hell of sale!!!! you let me know if you get it right, I'll buy another Gitzo tripod from them, sure I'll, I sourced and searched for many months on many online ordering, no one comes closed to or less than US$510.00 = AU$718.30 (rate is 0.71), I paid one recently US$507.00 from RRS + shipping**

The TC-20II works OK with 70-200VR but it's not a great feature than the TC-14II I have both and tried on may times, VR + AFS OK but sharpness is not good as TC-14II

CF card from Birddog on Saturday, then have a look at his A3 printer, then look at his lenses, etc. Also always looking for a cheap s/h 85mm 1.4 AF or manual 50mm 1.2 (soft) for portraits

I'm getting the 1.4 and am worried enough about controling the depth of field as it is...
I have missed a few shots with the 1.8 due to a thin DOF..

you really have to focus where you shoot, no focusing on the side of a head and composing on a cheek... and if you line people up to shoot them you have to make sure it is along the focal plane!

I've ordered the Markin M10 ballhead without QR plate. The reason being is because I want to order the RSS QR plate because it doesnt have the knob style clamp.

The RSS apparently is far superior and also idioit proof because if you fail to tighten the knob on the Markins head, your in poo

With the RSS, you can never forget to do that. Its apparently far more sturdy

The Tripod from Tristatecamera.com is Carbon Fibre, I'm waiting on a shipping price.

MHD, the 1.2 are supposedly a little soft everywhere and I am worried like you about DOF, but these are plentiful and hopefully I should pick up one for a $100 or so. If it's no good it's only $100

I leave it to you but please don't regret once you put everything together.
It's too hard to try to show you my setup so you can see what will you need. You have your choice.

Birddog, maybe you can take a photo of it.

The RRS QR looks far superior to the Markins QR plate which uses a knob as apposed to RSS's Lever design.

The RRS one is far better imo, because you never need to remember to 'tighten' the knob. It also has a spirit level

In any case, I ordered my markins ballhead WITHOUT a QR plate, so I have to get the RRS clamp now

the same thing you have to remember to shift the lever to lock the clamp.
The knob, you don't have to turn more than 2 turns to lock the L or camera bracket. I used to make 1.1/2 turn and it's locked.

If for some reasons, you accidentally hit the lever and you don't notice, then your cam fell.

with the knob, one you turned it tight, hardly for it getting loose. But look at many expensive ballheads in the market, no one has the lever and all with the knob, why? cos the knob is more popular than.

As I said all are your choices.

We'll have to see how we go

The only thing i am likely to purchase any time soon is a portable hard drive for dumping pics too when i am away from my laptop. Perhaps another CF card so i can continue shooting when the other one is downloading.

I am trying to consolidate what i have now and not spend too much money on things i can do without, rather than purchase things i DO need or paying more off my mortgage. Damn mortgage......

Yes sometime at some event, I asked her to stay still and I left my bag with her and I hunt photos

My next toy for the D70 would definitely have to be a VR lens, 70-200/2.8. It's just crying out for me!! Plus, I'll bypass all the intermediary steps that would end up costing me more in the end.

1) Camera Bag: Crumpler Brian's Hot Tub..

2) 70-200 2.8 VR IF ED *drools*

3) Flash.

4) CF Card, high capacity, maybe microdrive instead.

So I voted for bag, seeing as that's the cheapest and most likely to be bought soonest.

I currently enjoy the kit lens plus the Sigma APO 2 macro 70-300 and a 50mm 1.8

I voted Other - I think I will need a battery or two. Will be going bushwalking - 4 day trip, 2 x 1Gb cards to take, still trying to decide which lenses to take, may yet take them all. Don't tell my wife, she's coming too. So I think I will need more than 1 batt.
D70, 18-70, 70-300, Vivitar Series 1 28-210, teleconverter, and tripod. Weight building up. Might just take the vivitar + teleconverter and leave the nikon lenses at home. Tough choice.

I need a decent tripod but I can't bring myself to buy a carbon Gitzo and Markins because I don't use a tripod very often. That's money better spent on lenses one day. But I would like a tripod that will hold a camera and long lens still in a hurricane so I purchased a Manfrotto head Model 160 on EBay for $50, (RRP $370). For those who don't know this head its a heavy sucker and looks like part of a trucks suspension....but boy does it lock-up well. Now I need a second-hand or Mr Poon new Manfrotto set of legs and then I'll be in business. I will have to work out at the Gym so that I have the strength to carry this outfit.

For me probably:

1. Storage Device
2. Nikon 1.7 Teleconverter (give extra reach to my 70-200 vr)
3. 50mm 1.8
4. Another bag (A backpack this time I'm starting to dent my sholder)

Thats exactly how I feel, I need a better tripod but it is such a pain carrying it around I hardly use it. I may need a head for my mono-pod so I can handle the stranger angles.

My next purchase is a TC-17EII for my 70-200VR and it is here:

Your item arrived at the international processing centre (MELBOURNE) at 13:28 on 31 Dec 2004, and is awaiting clearance for delivery processing

Hopefully I will have it either Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
And it will make me .

After that, probably a Nikon AF-D 105mm f/2.8 macro around March/April or as soon as I can save the money.

Mine's a bit of a tossup between a macro lens and a set of legs. Think it'll be the macro lens. Either of them is a way off though - in the process of acquiring a huge debt, aka buying a house. Not going to enjoy this...

I ordered it through the great man, Birddog.
I am not at liberty to say the cost for obvious reasons.
All that I can tell you is that the order was submitted to Poon am on 30 Dec. shipped the same day via EMS and arrived Melbourne the following day. Now that is service a lot of Australian Companies should aspire too.

I will or someone else can give their views on the 70-200VR with
TC- 17EII attached.

Hello all. This is my first post. Thanks to the forum creators for such a cool place to discuss the D70.

My wishlist is pretty short. The first thing I'd like to get is a 70-200 VR to compliment the kit lens. Then the 12-24 to complete the holy trinity of lenses.

A new bag will be needed to hold all the glass, so that will come next.

At some point after the lenses and bag, a strong tripod will be needed. I've got a lot of research to do on this topic as the choices and options are so numerous it makes my head spin.

Then a 2GB card will be added to my existing 1GB.

In 5 years, which is how long I expect all of this gear acquisition to take, I'll be ready for the next Nikon D series camera.
