Doh! Never gave that a moment's thought until I realised this on this link:

I usually use high-pass sharpening instead of USM, sometimes using USM just for the fine stuff (eg: pixel radius up to about .3-4) but usually use high-pass for any stronger sharpening as there's no halo effect...
Just in case it's handy to someone that's not familiar with it...
There's an interesting comparison regarding noise reduction utilities too, they seem to come to the same conclusion as another link posted recently where it came down to a choice between NeatImage and NoiseNinja... I don't think I've used NR since getting the D70 but interesting or handy anyway...
