I must give a plug for the Scott Kelby Channels book. I am not a pro Photoshop user, just a keen amateur. This is a great book for learning how to give your landscape photos a burst of extra colour using Lab colours, getting a decent BW conversion and getting rid of red eye professionally, using channels. Just thought I'd throw this in for any interested people.

Taken yesterday in New Plymouth, New Zealand:

Colour emphasized with lab colour adjustments. (It is way over adjusted in my opinion but I did it just to see what was possible.)

Hey Max, I have one of his books and it is great but i think i prefer the first image, the 2nd looks way over saturated on my screen, but will look for book next in the shop.

Cheers

Ditto - plus the 2nd has really made the trees silhouetted against the sky go fuzzy/haloed.....

Used well & moderately I can see it being very effective though.

I've been a fan of LAB colour mode for postprocessing ever since I have purchased the "Photoshop LAB Colour The Canyon Conundrum and Other Adventures in the Most Powerful Colorspace" by Dan Margulis from which S. Kelby derived the current book. If you have a chance to buy, please do! Worth every cent.

It's not the same tutorial, but most prob works in a similar way.

Yes John, I agree it is very over saturated but a lot can be done with images that just don't seem to do much as they are. As far as the scenery being as it is, no, the first image is definitely under saturated compared with what my eye was seeing, but then again, I suppose no camera/lens will ever come close to viewing things like the incredible human eye.

I remember studying the articles on DGRIN (think that was the forum name) and really liked LAB so been using it to adjust colours for a long time now.
