For anyone else out there that runs linux. Hope this scratches an itch.

The gimp, imagemagick etc etc deals with EXIF quite fine... however... if you are exif crazy like me i have found a tool which is great. I have put it on my website if you want to download the source:

simple to build from source....

perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
make install

voila... take a look at the command for all the switches...

Example output below. Used the -g tag to get 'all' exif info.... as you can see it covers absolutely everything.... have a look at the Lens section.. tells you exactly which lens you used..

yep... it rocks....

big fan that it shows all the settings you used with the camera.. such as sharpening etc etc... good to see *nix starting to be used by 'normal' people that aren't religious nix zealot geeks...

will this work for images that have been through photoshop ? (wich still have some exif data in them.)

i always run the ISO fix tool on my images, which takes the nikon proprietary ISO field and puts into the standard ISO field that all other cameras use in exif headers )so that my gallery could read the ISO basically.)

yes it does... if you have a look towards the top of the exif posted above you can see that it has been edited with the gimp... same applied for photoshop..

gallery is simple to hack around with.. would be very easy to do...

yueh ive hacked my own gallery quite a bit to make it look and feel how i want it. bit of a pain at upgrade time but usually takes me about an hour to rehack all the things i wanted changed. (subtle, but extra colour fields beyond the standard css controls, omiting some things, changing layout / talbe sizes, stopping word wrapping, added some http info at the bottom of the main page, etc etc.)

Yeah... I've done some hacks and dont want to muck around much either...

But I will probably do what you have done with the EXIF under the pic... I like that...

ive also got a script, that im sure some of you are aware of, that stamps jpegs with selective exif data, and copyright in photoshop CS, part of post processing actions ;

I apply them to my full res originals as kind of like a "serial number" if you will. Of course, the exif headers are still intact and gallery reads headers out too, but i like branding the actual image. (i think i do anyway.)

ps, im off to this lake again this weekend, camping and wakeboarding by the lake, 32 degrees, peeeerfeect.

Thanks for the warm welcome xerubus I've been lurking far too long so I decided I should finally post something now that I've got a spare moment...

I just realised that I completely missed the post where you already gave the full URL to the site Bit of a long week at work I guess... TGIF!

Darb: That looks like a handy script, particularly if you are ever displaying your photos on a system that doesn't have EXIF reading abilities or even on a forum like this... I must look into photoshop batching/scripting more. I assume it wouldn't be too hard to have a transparent watermark logo applied to all your shots?
