Pulling a 5gb card out of an mp3 player

Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a Seagate 5gb compact flash card out of my hat, and by hat I mean a Creative Muvo2!

That article seems quite a few months old ( they mention coming to the office in september ). Has anyone done that with a retail version of the product?

Did a little checking and it looks like the card manufacturer did the same thing as Hitcachi did and removed the CF-compliance section of the firmware after a revision or so.. many people on forums complaining that it doesn't work..

The Cf card in Creative Muvo is not a compact flash, it's Hitachi Microdrive.
The earlier released of Muvo 2 had the Hitachi Microdrive and it works with any CF card reader or D70/ D100 or DSLR.
The new Muvo 2 might not work at all due to the new firmware or firmware of the micro drive due to the restriction and stop to user of removal of it.

There is a specific date of manufacture that one must look at before purchasing. Before this date the card will work perfectly fine, after this data Hitachi wised up to fact that people were buying a $300AU Mp3 for the card which they ( hitachi ) sell for $700AU.

It is believed that what Hitachi did simply alter the section of the firmware of the microdrive that tells a device whether the card is CF compatible, so if someone was able to find the firmware for the card as it was before the cut-of date, and could upload it to the microdrive manufactered after the cut-off date.. that might work.. maybe

The Hitachi microdrive is not worth it, too slow and easy to fail than the CF card, if it failed you loose everything: Muvo 2 warranty and your takes of the day.
Who's in the world use the microdrive for DSLR today? Old techno and eat lot of juice from the camera battery.

I agree.. with the prices members ( of good standing ) can get a 1GB CF card for it doesn't make sense to be to spend almost the same amount to get a trifle more capacity, but a lot less speed and reliability, plus you're introducing moving parts into the equation..

I’d like to have a microdrive.
So I could pull it apart & have it sitting on my PC desk to show people how small they can make hard drives these day’s

Any one got an old one that doesn’t work lying around?????
