Just when you have thought your home is safe!Well i think that is it now. My D70 along with other lens have been stolen. It looks like someone just rocked up the front door and busted himself in. My camera was on the table and the bag which has the kit lens in it was piled at the wardrobe.
Isn't it a coincidence that it was exactly 1 year that i got this camera? 16th August was my 19th b'day and that means i got the camera on my big 18th b'day from my dad knowing that i'll take care of it like a baby. Only the camera has been stolen. My bedroom has my PC, printer and many other gadgets including my mobile phone. So i just figured that my camera was not in the position the last time i placed it. Having a camera stolen out of pure no-where is something that really pisses me off and at home? I will have to get a replacement D70 before i really set my emotion loose. Oh well.
Sorry to hear your mis-fortune,
Have you got the insurance to cover the D70? Birddog114

Nexxus,
Truly sorry to hear of your misfortune. Did you record the camera's serial number? Have you notified the local constabulary? g.

Sorry to hear about that Nexxus. Hopefully find nab the person who stole it. It sickens me how some people have absolutely no respect for other people's privacy or property. Fair enough they may be desperate but to lower themselves to these acts really annoy me.

Come follow the rabbit hole...
Nexxus, sorry to hear that. As Gary said do you have the serial no's? Would be worth posting here.

Sorry to hear about that Nexxus. It's a terrible scourge of society that we can't even feel safe in our own homes. Disgraceful really. I hope the culprit is found soon so he/she can be put away for a little while. Good luck finding the camera, but i would guess it's already long been sold onwards.
Keep your chin up mate, don't let it get you down. Steve.

Nexxus,
I echo the sentiments of the others in expressing my disgust that this has happened. I would also like to wish you all the very best for the rest of your birthday and for the years ahead. Cheers, _______________

Sorry to hear about your drama Nexxus. Hope karma turns foul for the blaggard/s. I suppose there's no point getting serial numbers to pawn shops and cash converters around the the area?

Well it's back to basics now. Lost the whole equipment besides Polorizer filter and CF memory card.
Canon vs Nikon Canon 20D vs Nikon D70. The thing i didn't like about D70 was the very small viewfinder which is hard at night. I heard that NEF is not actually 12 bit? I have used Canon menu setting before (Canon S50), so that's not a problem. Are there any other camera which fits within this league?
Sorry to hear about the loss.
I had something similar happen recently, cept they took everything except the camera gear. Wish they had taken it instead, as I have it insured (unlike the stolen stuff). Anyway, my usual advice is look at the system. Bodies come and go, the lenses and flashes are what you carry through. Pick the manuf that gives you the lenses you want, and the bodies will follow. Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes. http://www.dionm.net/
G'day,
Sorry to hear about your loss, it leaves a terrible feeling when your own home is violated... Similar thing happened to me, they even had to have a few goes as the neighbours disturbed them, they even parked their van in my drive-way Took my travel bags to make it convenient to take clothes... Must admit, I was fortunate as my stuff was mostly insured (had receipts etc), the insurance dude simply told me to check out the places like Cash Converters as he's found so much hot stuff there... Go the 20D mate, OCAU will be your backup and support team. Its true, the NEF from the D70 yields 10 bits per colour due to "lossless" compression. Us D70 users tend to ignore this issue as it hurts our egos so we push it aside as not important but in reality potentially affects image quality, esp wrt post process 'corrections'. You will be disappointed at the inferior build quality of the 20D compared to the D70 however, and wonder why on earth it costs more than the D70... (the "magnesium build" is purely bovine excrement marketing)
Yeah. I don't like the exterior look of the 20D. It looks more of a toy than anything else because of the plastic...yuck. D70 looks much sturdy and does look like it's a professional camera.
Are there any rumours circulating about new products in between the categories of D70 and 20D?
What does the look of the camera matter? It's what it does that counts. Even having said that, the 20Ds that I use certainly don't look or feel like cheap plastic. Sure, they're not the same build as an EOS 1-series camera, but I have no qualms about using it in the company of 1DsMkII users for example. Heck, it even counts as a professional body in Canon Professional Services' membership criteria... Actually the body is not the whole story, the lenses are equally important. If you're starting from scratch you should consider the whole product line to determine which is going to suit you best. That would be the EOS 350D, wouldn't it? It's even available in black instead of silver so it looks more "professional". On a more-serious note, I'm not expecting any new EOS digital bodies until early next year, when Canon's traditional (up to this point, but the DSLR market may be changing) behaviour would indicate that they will introduce a replacement for the 20D. Whether it's a 20Dn or something else is anybody's guess. As for Nikon bodies, I have no idea. But whatever you get will be depreciated/replaced in a few years anyway, so you just need a body that will get you through that time and a lens collection that will grow into the future...
