Firmware upgrade??

Postby mrbillf on Fri Aug 19, 2005 10:14 am

Hi all,

This question probably has already been answered in past conversions on this forum and I probably missed it. Anyway, I need some advice before actually making the committment of upgrading the firmware on my D70 from version A 1.01, B 1.03 to version 2.00 for both.

Basically, is there a real difference in the new version? and what are the pros and cons. Will I notice a difference in picture quality? or is it just camera software upgrades.

would like to here from anyone who has made the switch.

Thanks again,
Bill

You'll find all the information you need in this thread:

Short answer is nicer menus, marginally faster auto-focus and no difference in Picture quality... Oh - and it fixes the count of remaining photos when shooting RAW
Cheers, John

Bill
you won't turn your D70 magically into a D2X, however I believe it is worth it for the simple fact that the counter will properly display the correct number of shots left on your CF card (or close to anyway).

Other than this, there are only cosmetic changes. It's not going to harm your camera, so why not do it ?

You certainly won't lose anything in updating.....

I think the v2 firmware was meant to bring some d70s improvements to the d70. Prob the most obv change is the menu system has a new look, the firmware was also meant to improve AF.

Thanks again guys for your comments.

To Aussie Dave, I love that opening line about not turning theD70 into a D2X. I got a laugh out of that. Thanks again - Cheers.
