Monastry - 50/1.4 pix

Today (21 August) is a special day in the buddhist community. It is called Ullambana day and is similar to Mother's Day. I was honoured to accompany birddog to the Phuoc Hue Monastery in Sydney to take some pics of the events celebrating the day there. Below are the first of my shots hot off the PP press!. For a larger version click the image.

All of these shots were taken with the Nikkor 50/1.4 lens. Refer also to this post for unprocessed versions of some of these shots if you want to see just how good this lens is and why I love using it.

You'll see in some of these pics that people are wearing a red or a white rose. A red rose means their mother is still alive and a white one that they have passed on.

Some great people shots Peter...

The look of pride on the guy's face in the last pic is worth a fortune...
Cheers, John

Thanks for the comments John. The last shot is a very evocative one and one of my favourites of the few hundred pics I took!

Some really nice shots there Peter.
What a wonderful location. All the shots are beautifully natural. I like #1 where he is smiling and remembering a pleasant memory.
I agree with John, #4's look is great.
Really nice captures.

Peter,
Well done.
It is colorful but peaceful.
We can feel the peace in any body's heart.
I hope that I was there.

Peter,
50/1.4 lens is really worthy to buy.
If you don't tell me I can not imagine it is 50mm lens.

Stubbsy,

Great captures the 50mm and the 800 seem like a great combination.

Your pics show the emotion of the day prefectly.

I also love people portraits , every persons face has a story to tell.

Thanks guys. I'm starting to really like the combination of the 50/1.4 and the SB800 it just gets lovely warm vibrant pics. It really was a very special day (and tiring - I was there for about 6 hours). I have more pics to come

Definitely a great combo the 50+sb800... the other worthy combo for portrait is the 85+sb800, giving you a little extra breathing space and an improvement in bokeh.

Michael, for me the 85 doesn't go wide enough for some shots, but does have better bokeh (and a price tag that makes the 50/1.4 look a bargain!).
