70-200 stock shortage?

Postby agriffiths on Tue Aug 23, 2005 6:25 pm

Just wondering about this 70-200 VR lens stock shortage that people keep referring to.

I've been lusting after this baby for quite some time but couldn't be miffed waiting in a cue to get one. Maxwells informed me that there is no longer a supply problem and that they are now fully stocked.... so 70-200's for everyone!?

Maxwell and B&H have stock but not the imported stock.
If you're willing to pay the high premium for the Maxwell stock, then you'll go with it.
Imported stock: still no sign of the 70-200VR

No worries, any ideas when the imported stock might be available?

Nope! I have 5 members on waiting list atm, as soon as it available from our suppliers, then they're the first to receive.

Don't you know? with Maxwell's price over 3K for the 70-200VR, that why they still have stock of it

how much over 3K do they want?

Wendellt,
I think you're the only one "rich" member, can afford the price of the 70-200VR from Maxwell, we're the poor soul

Yeah, at $3500+ there was never a shortage. You can walk into any camera store on george st in sydney. GV Image, CCC, Paxton they all have in stock.

Its only those HK imported 2.5k ones are in great shortage.

Johndec, no very happy just getting the 500MM AF-S IF-ED II, and I can't afford to have both. Plus my dream setup is the 300MM AF-S II or VR and the 500MM AF-S II.

I'll send you the link but I'm warning you, it's not cheap :)
So no comments like "ARE YOU F$#KING SERIOUS?".

Actually this is the 70-200VR shell that Birddog was talking about the other day! :D

Hey anyway be quiet you! You'll be getting an order for a 500MM AF-S II in a months time if my plans fall together. Plus if you hadn't noticed a guy sold a 70-200VR for $1925k the other day and it was 2years old. Mine is just under 6 months old. So surely that 1.5years of less wear is good for something. PS. If anybody wants to PM me about the lens they can.

edit: I just updated the listing, it said CL-M2 case optional but it's supplied as the picture shows.

I have only brought a few things from this shop and i found they were quite helpfull (and talked me out of buying something as they thought it would not help which was a change from the place were i brought my d-70 a year ago)

Anyway i noticed in the local Advertiser on 13 th aug a full page add with some prices for nikon ,cannon and pentax e.t.c. that i thought was not to bad.Anyway i found the newspaper add again and it says that the af-s 70-200mm vr f2.8 was $2,875.

I presume that was with gst included and i have no idear if they have any instock but i thought if Birdy can get them for $2,300 and you ad gst of 10% or another $230 thats $2,530 and if you really really want a brand new one now and want to pay extra$350 on bridy price then you could try Photographic wholesalers 47 Hutt st Adelaide adn see if they still have any

Like i said i have nothing to do with them and if you not alowed to mention the name of the place (i left phone number off just incase as well but i am sure you can look that up) feal free to remove this message as i dont want to step on anyones toes

My 70-200VR cost me AU$2400 including shipping and gst from B&H back in February. I'm not sure what they are worth now.

I also just picked up a SB800 + 50mm 1.8 lens for AU$675 from a local dealer. He threw in the shipping costs and insurance! I think it was a great deal.

Good luck, don't be too hasty, it could save you heaps.
