Is it really that big?

Well, i was experimenting with my 70-300mm and the 50mm backwards, and i came up with a few shots.

And, wow, is it hard focusing. I had to use duct tape and manual focus, coz auto wouldn't work.

I also had to have the camera a certain distance from the item, otherwise it wouldnt work.

But anyway, here is what i came up with. I'm still not happy with the colours on some, i will have to do some pp. But i just thought i would quickly post them before i start my homework

I kinda feel real ghetto saying this, but i didn't use a converter ring. I just used duct tape to keep it all together.

And i'm really 14, i turned 14 31st of may.

Amazing Monty, I did some experimentation also with the combination of the 70-300mm and the 60mm micro reversed too, and yes it is hard to focus, see my samples of a small coin on a recent post here, plus almost no dof, I love those shots, what is the last pic?

Monty, I forgot to mention that you said that you didn't like the color, but when you get that close you block the lighting falling into it, give it a longer exposure, you'll get a little less noise too.

Just to let you guys know, I took most of these photos in my bathroom. This is because the heat lights were awefully bright, and they gave me pretty constant light.

The 3rd pic is of a little 4mm wide ripcurl logo on my watch.

I was playing with long exposure like this for the 'decisive moment' comp on a clock, but you've gotten much better results.

Or if you don't have another camera, you could use your duct tape and an elaborate set of mirrors to show your setup.

(My wife was amazed when she saw the shots, but she did ask, is it your camera ? Or your families ?)

These shots are great. I particularly like the second. This is inspirational stuff. I even had a go... Not that I came up with anything as spectacular!



Willy, here is a shot of my setup sans body. The 50/1.8 is reverse mounted to the 70-300G (which is mounted to the camera body). I substituted the gaffa for some (6 for $1) electrical tape. On the 50/1.8 I opened the aperture up to 1.8 and focus was set to infinity. I might have a go with different focus settings on the 50mm (dont do this with lens attached - it tries to extend into the 70-300 front element) when I get over the headache this exercise gave me!
I had the benefit of an SB800 so I set it up of to the side in SU-4 mode.
This setup gave about 1000 pixels per mm - a pin head from the GF's sewing kit was about 1200 pixels across.

No, it is my camera, with my 70-300mm lens, but the 50mm is my dad's, that he got for a present.

He is still using a nikon f50 and my old f65.

.... since I'm guessing your school friends don't "get" it.

This is very true. I have one friend that is kinda interested. but he isn't greatly.
