just found out about this - another update to nikon capture, released to the nikon usa site - about to install it!!

It seems some time along the way Nikon decided to place region restrictions on their software... bugger that.

Nikon Capture Editor
- Images are displayed and saved faster.

Issues addressed with Nikon Capture 4 version 4.3.1
· When images captured with the D2X at a color mode setting of I or II exhibited a loss of detail in highlights, the RGB values displayed in the Information palette did not display the maximum value of 255 with sampling of these portions. This phenomenon has been corrected.

· When RAW images captured with the D1X and the AF DX Fisheye Nikkor ED 10.5mm f/2.8G lens were opened at 10MP (4016 x 2616), images printed as if Include areas where there is no image data in the Fisheye Lens palette were applied despite the fact that it wasn't. This phenomenon has been corrected.

· A phenomenon that caused a decrease in sharpness when images were straightened using the Straighten option selected from the Image menu's Rotate sub-menu has been corrected.

· When multiple images were edited simultaneously in the Multi-Image window, an error occurred when the Auto Contrast button was pressed after the curve was edited in the Curves palette. This phenomenon has been corrected.

· A phenomenon that caused Nikon Capture to quit unexpectedly with some computer systems when another application was launched while D-Lighting processing was being performed has been corrected.

· When lens zoom position was adjusted AFTER Nikon Capture Camera Control settings were applied and saved with the Settings menu's Save Camera Settings option, aperture value did not revert to the value saved in the settings file when the settings were loaded. This phenomenon has been corrected.

Nikon seem to have an unusually high number of unusual occurrences.

I did the 4.3.1 installation and it went without errors but when I restarted and ran NC again it still said v.4.3.0 on start up. Did anyone have the same problem?

I'll wait a couple of weeks for the dust to settle down before I consider the UG.

From what I've read it still hijacks PS CS2 RAW opening from ACR. No biggie because you can rename/delete the Nikon plugin in the PS plugin folder if you prefer ACR as the RAW opening proggie in CS2. Still not very nice behaviour by NC and I understand why Adobe is pissed off.

Update went smoothly for me. No version numbering problems. Seems to genuinely be a bit snappier, certainly loads nefs faster.
Still chokes a bit on 100% zoom on D2X nefs but not quite as bad as before..
It's an improvement.. *thumbs-up*

Alex, I think something's amiss with your install - I got the 431 version reported correctly after upgrade.

Funny that you should say that.

Currently I am using rawshooter due to the fact that NC was so slow. Now that things have improved abit, I find that the processed image from NC is more pleasent to view. So now I am in the process of reprocessing all my favourite images back on NC.

Next i'll need to find a photo hosting site.

Plus for the Mac guys, Tiger support and some new options for setting the colour management, though I havent been able to figure out what these are supposed to be for.
Its NOTICEABLY faster opening and zooming NEF's compared to 4.3.0, which was in itself a major improvement over 4.2.x

Does anyone know a way of converting the ICC profile in NC, eg from AdobeRGB to sRGB? Or from NikonSRGB to standard sRGB? If I can do that without importing into photoshop, then the majority of stuff I need to do, I can do in NC.

Yep. I've got mine set that way. Look in tools/options/color management. I changed this to NKsRGB.icm (you'd choose sRGB) color profile and checked the box marked 'use this instead of an embedded profile'.
