Exposure questionI'm after some advice / tips on how i could have exposed this picture better?
I know its exposed on the lights from the headlights but how could i have bought out the rest of the image without turning off the lights? Can this only be done in photoshop? Matrix, spot or center weighted meetering seemed to make no difference. Taken with D70, kit lens, 1/2sec, f10 at ISO200 P.S. Dont know if i should have posted in this forum so feel free to move it if needed. Jamie

Jamie,
I had that problem with one of the guy's BMs as well. He had HIDs which were a massive pain. I left the headlights blown and captured the rest of the car. IF I was to put more effort into that shot, I would have followed what Genji said. Also failing that, try playing around with remote SB800 trigger Last edited by PiroStitch on Thu Aug 25, 2005 9:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.

This is a really easy way of doing digital blending which I pinched from dpreview forums:

genji - i never thought of doing that so ill give that a go next time.
Piro - HID's a pain? Whatever do you mean, they are only 35W globes. I dont have a SB800, its on the looooong loooooong list of thing to buy. owen - thanks for the link, ill be sure to use that next time. Jamie

I think Piro's talking about High Intensity Discharge lamps, the really blue kind you see on high end cars. BMW uses Xenon-type HID lamps. I've also had problems with white balance while attempting similar shots (shoot RAW, manual WB later) Dodgy 'How Stuff Works' page on HID
Yes HID's are a pain on they eyes when you're on the receiving end and a pain to photograph
