Can not open D70S Raw files in Adobe CS

Can not open D70S Raw files in Adobe CS

Postby campics on Wed Aug 24, 2005 5:33 pm

Photoshop 8 (CS), we can not get to open Nikon D70S Raw files! We have downloaded the 2.4 update and installed it properly! It opens all other Raw files including the D70 Raw, but will not seem to open the D70S Raw!
Comes up with the message "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
We can open the files in "Picture Project" or "Raw Converter Essentials"
but not CS!
CS2 will open these files with 3.1 update! Does anyone know of anything for CS
Can someone out there PLEASE HELP!!
Regards

So how is this different to this thread??? So you have CS and not CS2 as you previously posted???

In that case, I don't think that CS supports D70s files... You therefore have 3 choices:

- Lobby Adobe to provide an upgrade plug-in for CS
- Upgrade to Photoshop CS2
- Try using a utililty called D70SHack that can be found here: http://home.comcast.net/~NikonD70/ It simply changes the model name in the NEF file from D70S to D70 and some members have had some success with this...

You should be able to use Adobe DNG, a free program independent of PS version which can convert NEF files to Adobe's DNG (digital negative) RAW file. Just go to the adobe support page and click downloads.

OK! Thanks, will give both a try!
As for the mix up! I am running CS2, the 3.1 update did the trick!
My friend however is still on CS and that is the one that continued causing the problems for us!
Sorry for the confusion!
Thanks again,
Cam

Well that's fine then... I was just wondering why you'd started a new thread...
Cheers, John

Seemed to keep on getting advice on CS2 (Cured) but not on CS! Could'nt seem to think of any other idea! Not very computer literate I'm afraid!

An easy solution for CS is to use Adobe DNG to batch your NEF files to DNG. Give it a go if you want to open d70s files in ACR.

Grab the 3.1 version (DNG is a standalone - no installer - so get the latest) here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/ ... rm=Windows
Also, it would be worth getting ACR 2.4 for CS if not already done.

Cheers

Edit: I missed Atorie's suggestion of the same. Also, check the previous tthread for a list of third party options.

OK, will give both a try!
By the way, has anyone out there got any experience with both Adobe Raw converter & Raw shooter essentials? I have done a couple of tests and Raw shooter essentials seems to come out in front!!?? Has anyone else found the same?? Any ideas??
