Hi all,
Well this marks the first image I have posted on this forum. Ive had my D70s for exactly 1 month now...even coming from film SLR use Ive found it a bit of a learning curve, but a whole heap of fun! Anyway, heres both my first post and a shot at the "Blue" theme. Cheers Escapism
I see Wendell's freakiness and raise it by one This photo keeps giving me the heebie jeebies.
It's a crop of the whole pic...so does that count as PP? Original is here Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
This is a brilliant thread and very enjoyable and educational too!
Every photograph has a different aspect and interpretation of the theme and the whole thread makes for very interesting reading. Thanks for sharing your creativity Graham
Hue and Saturation have been altered in PSCS so please let me know if this is in breach of the guidelines for this thread.
What do you think?? Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
Hi Meerkat,
First post from genji says:

I almost posted this image to it's own tread intending to call it something like "blue boat" but then something stroke me stright between the eyes - aw, there is something about blue this month ... And so, I'm posting it here
I have different crop but as rules say "One image per user" I decided to show this one Mikhail

OK folks... The August Blue Exercise in Style is now closed...
The photos that were submitted have all been copied to my smugmug gallery and can be viewed and commented upon there... FOLLOW THIS LINK... I'd urge people to have another look through the entries - there are 31 photos with an amazing variety of styles & subjects... All photos have been credited to the original photographer, and this gallery is only visible from a supplied link, but, once again, if anyone objects to me copying their photo to this gallery, please let me know by PM and I'll delete it immediately... Heath Bennett... Now would be a good time to set the next exercise in a new thread!!!! p.s. didn't mean to hijack genji - just wanted to keep it moving... Cheers, John

Many good shots there showing great skills and concepts, but if I have to choose one, the best one, my pick goes to Sirhc55. It seems to me that this shots supports the best these two words: blue and style. http://jpeake.smugmug.com/gallery/726317/1/31887570/Large Regards, K.Polak

thanks for putting the images up in your gallery, they looked fabulous. Deb "Sometimes when you are sad Poko, it's good to hug the monkey."
Best photos I'd have to give to the following people:
Wendell (you have some scary friends) Chris (very stylishhhhh) Heath (the first one of the bench having a 2D look to it) Leek (she freaks me out) Darryl (aka Kipper)
Nikon D200
Thanks for doing that John,
great initiation to the Elements of Style thread. Well done to everyone that participated, either by posting a photo and/or commenting. I'll refrain picking a "best one" as they are all so different. I would say that in this case as we don't talk about general photography, but rather about an exercise/subject/theme the best one is one meeting brief the closest possible and combining this request with good photoraphic skills. The only problem seems to be with interpretation of 'style' word
Regards, K.Polak
Let's not get too pedantic Krystian We weren't allowed to call it a challenge or a competition, so the title of "Exercise in Style" originated from a similar exercise in the French D70 User Group: For this first one, we weren't being too strict, but I think that it is very interesting how so many people come up with so many versions of the Blue theme... It is not a competition, and therefore there are no winners or losers... I enjoyed the photos for what they are - pictures of Blue... Cheers, John

I fully agree and should clarify that for me it is a workshops and it results in very goods shots. I dont think my two hands can handle number of impresive photos this gallery includes.
However personaly I try to see it as a kind of practise for commercial photography, where you receive a brief from client and it could be good to match is as much as possible. This is why I think Chris' shot fits the best 'blue & style' subject (from my understanding words blue and style). I am quite practical, but it is only my personal approache for that kind of workshops And the most important, all of us have good view on subject handling, way of interpetation, creativity and possibility to exchange experience. I really value to see the thread developing and reading comments on next shots. And that is the best part. Regards, K.Polak
Good stuff... Me too... I really enjoyed the diversity that came out of this exercise and I'm really looking forward to the next one... If it was a commercial thing, then I'm sure we would have all ensured that we clarified the exact nature of the subject... In this case, it was vague enough to produce a wide range of photos... Cheers, John

I would like to congratulate all that submitted photos to this exercise. It was fun and the diversity of approach to the subject by all, makes us what we are - different

Yes, he has been posting last week then disappeared. Why don't let the second person has his choice instead of waiting him to come back, might be mid of August, then by the time he settled down and choose the theme then it'll be end of the moonth. Birddog114

Without being disrespectful to Heath - Genji started this exercise so why can’t he choose the next person for the September theme

Ok, let me make a sugestion.
Since the last excercise theme was so wide in meaning and interpretation and result showed good variety of approches, lets extend that this month as well. My subject could be: THREE Regards, K.Polak
Hi Krystian, I'm not sure if you were aware that 3 was the theme for the 4th Competition held in April / May this year... See here... While we can use that theme again, people's creativity may be limited / influenced by the entries in that Challenge... It's up to you, but you might want to think about another theme... Cheers, John

i started a new ES thread here, http://www.d70users.net/viewtopic.php?t=9003 with K.Polaks theme. could the mod be kind enough to un-sticky this thread and sticky the september theme thanks [every man's work is always a portrait of himself.

I did not realise that THREE was a subject already. Maybe it could be good to try other one. Finally we have only 12 excercises per year and so much to do
Let me find list of previous themes and proposed something new. What do you think guys? Regards, K.Polak

Sorry for trouble with THREE. If this is going to stay that is fine, however I still recon it could be good to try new one.
I cannot find list of previous excercises so if we are going to go for other subject lets pick up first fresh one from list below: 1. Let there be light 2. Fifth element 3. Three colours Regards, K.Polak
