Kylie and I spent a month in China in July/early August. I took over 1800 shots with the D70 and have finally put up the first lot on the web.

Here are a few of my favourites. Comment/critique welcome.

Dean,
what a great lots of shots! Don't you just love it when you come back from some exotic holiday and you see images like this emerge from the camera (with a bit of PS help no doubt!). I like them all, but most especially the soccer and sunset shots - well seen and executed

Great shots Dean. I really like the 'Rice' one for some reason. Also that 'big bug' looks like his grown a beard or is he very old? Have a closer look.

Yangshuo looks like a very interesting place. How did you cope with the pollution in China?

Dean,
Nice to meet you and Kylie in Hong Kong.
Great to see the photos you took in China and Hong Kong.
It is typical Chinese life and I can see you and Kylie enjoyed much.
We expect to see more photos of Xian, Beijing and Shanghai from you.

Nice shots and lucky you - you got nice blue sky in Yangshuo, that's fairly rare!

Thanks for the feedback folks.

Frankenstein,
Indeed there is a little PS in there  I have just started using the Fred Miranda Velvia Vision plug-in and I love it. Please do tell me if you think I am over-doing it.

mrbillf,
I also like that rice one because of the colour and texture of it. There is another one in portrait in my pbase gallery here
The bearded bug looks a bit like Gary don't you think?

Willy wombat,
The polution is one of the lasting memories of China. It is so amazing to return to Melbourne and be able to see all the way to the horizon. I'm sure the polution contributed to Kylie getting a chest cold.

Poon,
It was great to meet you also. Thank you for your hospitality. I am still working on the rest of the photos which do cover Xian, Beijing and Shanghai as well as Emei Shan and the Yangtze River.

Link,
You are right about the blue skies. We didn't see many in our month long trip.

Cheers
Dean

Dean

Soccer shot works well - clever execution

#4 and #5 are great, but I'd have liked a tad more reflection at the bottom of #5 so we saw the sky above (below?) the mountain peak on the left

#8 - how BIG was that bug

Amazing picts Deano,

particularly 2, 4 and 5!

As it happens I had a quick look through the rest of your photos on pbase and your tour guide Rhona is a close friend of mine, I went to stay with her early last year for a couple of weeks, had a great time. I will definitely have to go back and see more of china!

Stubbsy,

I agree with the reflection being chopped off. Had the wrong lens on at the time. The bug is this big.

Genji,
We loved the food. The sichuan (sp?) was great. We had a spicy hotpot in Emei which was wicked. One of the highlights was Peking Duck in Beijing. The real deal. The duck was almost as good as what we get at the Old Kingdom in Brunswick St.

Cheers

What does the filter do? To my eyes, all the shots look great, although the first Yangshou shot looks a bit over sharpened and "punchy".

Dammit Deano - look what you made me do  ...I just spent about $80 on Fred Miranda's site, on the Velvia plugin and a couple of others.

Got the Velvia plugin, intellisharpen and the frames. I had a quick play last night after I downloaded them and I'm very impressed, especially with the Velvia one - it really lifts the image. When I get a bit of time I'll post some images.
