Adelaide by nightBig V mentioned the possibility of a night shoot around Adelaide so I had this idea...
Some people from interstate seem to think that everyone in Adelaide goes to bed at 9PM. Let's prove them wrong by sharing photos from around our city taken at night! In consideration of those unfortunate people on dialup, thumbnails linking to full size images would probably be the best option. All my photos are under 200K anyway. Feedback is welcome, but posting your own night shots from around our great city would be best! Aboriginal Stone Wurleys in the Western Parklands Paper Boats on the River Torrens New TAFE building on Currie St. Elder Park Rotunda State Library on North Terrace The Art Gallery of South Australia's main entrance on North Terrace Looking forward to your shots! Hi Oli,
I really like your paper boats picture. Unfortunately, I do go to bed by 9pm and so don't have any night pictures of Adelaide to share but have got some ideas from yours for next time I'm in town. Thanks for sharing! Marvin Nikon D7000
oli,
Well done. I personally like the architecture shots. I have not taken shots around Adelaide by night, so l am looking forward to the September Meet fozzie

For your interest, on thursday evening, you can get a fantastic photo of jupiter and venus in the western horizon. These suckers are so bright, that if you are at the beach they will cast a light pillar across the water and it will classify as a night shot! I will post an example later tonight when I get home..

Big V,
I will be sure to tune in tonight for a look see fozzie

Re: Adelaide by night
Unfortunately, you have proven the point you are trying to disprove, as there are no people in your photo's! Don't get me wrong, I love Adelaide, and have lived there. But people do really go to bed that early over there! Interesting pics, by the way Thanks for sharing some of the great buildings in your fine city. Look forward to seeing more of the night sights - there are plenty of possibilities Around the Torrens, Glenelg, the Cathedral, the Oval, any of the beaches... *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
frink,
The more the merrier We will have to make sure that 'Big V' orders the correct weather (no rain) for Friday 16 September 2005. fozzie

Hi oli,
Great stuff. I too like your paper boats. The lights in that one have a star like quality to them. What was the EXIF of that one? Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

The 16th is going to be out for me, I have remembered that I will be at Murray Bridge for the 24hr pedal prix event. Bummer..
Here is a sample for thursday night...In this photo you can see Venus, Mercury and Saturn. Jupiter and Venus will be really bright thursday and fairly close to each other Canon
The EXIF is gone because it's 5 shots merged together in Photoshop. Photo gallery online here and some more on deviantArt here.
Big V,
Cool shot. Surprisingly not a bird in sight. fozzie

You didn't keep the originals? Doesn't matter, I was just wondering if the f-stop produced that effect. Thanks Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

Sure I kept them! ISO100, all at F/8 Shutter speeds: 2.5s, 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s Frink... Yeah. Rain + photo gear isn't good, in particular for those of us without weather sealed bodies Big V: Sweet photo. Guys if you go to bed so early, fair enough... But don't make it public knowledge! That's a relief. I was wondering if you had done something like that. Thanks Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

Night shoot in AdelaideI am still getting the hang of this forum stuff. I seem to have missed something along the way of conversation. Is the 16th going to be a night shoot? I am keen as I have next to no idea about shooting at night and would like the chance to see how others set up for their shots.
When I eventually learn how to post images on here I will do that too. I am lswapping Big V my 70-200mm 2.8 lens for his Sigma jobbie on that weekend, so I will be on a double learning curve. Canon 20D User

Got anywhere in particular you'd like to go? I'm interested. Photo gallery online here and some more on deviantArt here.
I may well be interested in an outing this friday night. How about meeting in one of the city squares? Different city views from last fridays efforts?
I like your picture buoyant clown. I would like to see more on the bottom. Unfortunately I won't be in town this weekend so I'm out too. I think Big V is in Murray Bridge for the pedal prix so he may well be out too.
Nikon D7000
I do like the colourings bouyant_clown, although I would like to see a lot less of the sky. I think it detracts from the lioghts and their reflection. I would crop it so that the shoreline was just bellow centre on the left and just abouve centre on the right. Have a play - see what you think. BTW - was this taken at West Lakes?
I too am unable to make it this Friday - I'll be out of town.
Thanks, for the comments on the photo guys.
Yes it was taken at West Lakes. I agree that it would be nice to have either a little more lake or a little less sky. I cropped the bottom of the photo pretty severely because there is some ugly, distracting foreground light in the original (to the right side). I have a different crop for my desktop image that i removed more from the right hand side and left more at the base. It's a compromise between the two options.
