whole bunch of prizes on offer (some new K2 ski's would be veeeery nice!) ;
http://www.vicsnowreport.com.au/photocompetition.html
Anyway, ive submitted the following 4, fingers crossed (though there will be thousands of entries i'll be up against tough competitors) ;
Photo 1 : Caption : "The Village Below" Descr : Nighttime "long exposure" photograph taken with a EOS300D. It shows a still lodge, with motion in the trees and the storm clouds are lit up a red colour from the Big D village below. The lodge is Aaardvark lodge, at Mt Hotham, August 2004. (highest in australia)
Photo2 : Caption : "off piste". This photo was taken in august, 2005, at a secret location near Mt Hotham. (granted, most locals will know where it is.) Taken with a telephoto lens, on a Nikon D70.
Photo3 : Caption "Natures Aide". Long Exposure photograph of the Big D Snowmaking at night. Nb : I froze half to death taking these shots taken on a Nikon D70 with 18mm lens. August 2005.
Photo4: "Restful". A moonlit long night exposure on a cold clear night at the top of Big D, Mt Hotham. The lifts are closed, the sky is bright, the moon is out. It was a dead silent and eerie night. August 2005.

Very nicework , and after just looking at 700+ snow photos from a group of friends on a recent trip... these still went wow.
I really like the glow in #1 and the sense of size in #2. theres also something about 3, I just dont know what it is but all the best in the comp.
As a new member its great to see everyones work, and what can be achieved!
cheers

Good luck Darb. I like number 3 and 4 the best, but not sure if that will depict a snow report the best.
To me, #1 looks like a poor P/shop collage attempt....

Darb
That's bloody good photography. Number 2 or 4 will win it for you. Start buying the accessories now.

Hey all thanks for the encouragement ... piro, the theme just has to be a landscape i believe, doesnt have to match a 'snow report' theme.
THere were soem others i had previously submitted, but having returned from skiing they let me change my submission past the due date, phew.
these were the 3 previous submissions (the red sky photo at night stayed in both revisions)
hope i didnt make a mistake in deleting the above 3 !

i heard falls and buller got smashed with 100mm of rain , flooding, poweroutages, 198km/h wind gusts, and THEN the temp dropped freezing everythign! ... the good news is there was some precip leftover after the temp dropped so theyve had about 20cm of fresh or more i believe
go have fun

Cheers Darb,
It's a beautiful sight.... just not quiet like that at the moment. Wait a couple of months and then it will be back to its best.
In case you interested the lake goes from a dull blue/grey durring winter to a bright blue over summer, just like Darbs pic.
