AND
i have been told " YOUR NOT GETTING A NEW CAMERA " !!!! they don"t understand any ideas ?????? cheersw rob

Check and clean the contact pins on the camera mount. Or try on other D70 to see what's happened. Birddog114

Yes, I knew and Rob is not the only one has this issue, I 've seen and dealt with more than 10 x D70 body, especially with people using the Pro range lens, heavy or the way people handling the lens attached to the camera by the body instead of the lens itself. Please note: the D70 is lighter than most of the Pro range (70-200 upward) lens and unbalance in comparison with the D2 or D100 with vertical grip, the more movement of the lens once it mounted on the body, it'll easy happen with the problems like Rob's D70. The mount on the D70 is not solid like the D2 or D100. Lastly! the more changing lens (heavy) on the D70, the contact pins on the mount easyly to be worn out! Those contacts do look a bit stuffed Rob, but they should work if they're clean! Just a wild thought - have you got a meter to measure your battery voltage? Or another battery to try?
Cheers ps How's married life treating you (not too bad by the sound of it - new D2X on the horizon, I will show Vicki this thread) What's another word for "thesaurus"?
rob,
Looks like you need to inform Lorraine that you need to order a D2x to handle the 200-400VR in future Should you need any moral support you know how to contact me fozzie
When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
I know: we all support him to get a D2x and he deserve it Birddog114

I decided to check out my contacts on mine. Looks like mine are a bit worn too. With a bit of a worn plastic where the lens twists into the area where the contacts are.
Have to look into lens supports for the 500MM, think it'd shear the mount right off Darryl (aka Kipper)
Nikon D200
kipper, It's good time to have a self check-up! It's happened and will happen. Birddog114

birddog ....when i got my 70-200 i did "hang" it from the camera, and i do a lot of lens changes but since getting the 200-400 i have realised about the hanging off the camera and always hold the camera body now but i fear i hung the 70-200 from my shoulder for too long ...
digitor..... yes they look a bit rough ... i did clean them today ( i cleaned them with eclipse ??? i hope that was ok ) and i did do a battery change but no difference... although for the first time since getting the camera, i charged a battery the night before and at the end of one day showed it was nearly flat ! they usually last at least two days ? ... and i'm sure if vicky thinks you need a new camera you will get one !!! you got a good one there ! fozzie ... i know i could rely on you to "sweet" talk lorraine ! SHIT if i havent got a camera .... gluepot is out !!! bbj ... thanks for the headsup on the adelaide nikon guy i would love to have a d2x but ... where does it stop ?? *** i can't hear when i'm thinking aloud *** cheers rob
