Kingston elite pro CF cards and D2X

Postby samester on Sun Sep 04, 2005 12:54 pm

howdy - anyone used the kingston elite pro CF cards?

they seem very well priced (<$200 AUD for 2GB) and have a lifetime warranty

what cards do the D2X users around here have in their camera?

cheers,

Sam, BTW: I do not own a D2x. These are merely my observations when talking to people about this body.

Minium 2GB, but 4GB would be best.

I would have a look at this thread for prices on Transcend (80x) CF cards

I have t selection of 512MB ultra II san disk cards which on the outside look very polished as a marketable product, i bought these ones retail last year and they cost about $220

but have found out that the cheaper looking 1gig Astone and Transcend 80x cards are of the same make inside and they are much cheaper you can get a
A 1 gig astone card costs around AU$120 from biddog
My D2X has not had a problem with these cheaper cards

kingston elite pro CF cards is not better than the Transcend 80x.
I used Astone 2Gb 45x card before and none of any problem that I can see, now I switch all my 5 CF cards to Transcend 80x 4Gb card.

Shoot till the cow comes home.

That's teasing me Birdy! In my dreams I will own the D2X, however the portraiture work is picking up a bit and it WOULD be a business espense
wouldn't it? :) Nah..can't justify it yet..there's a house deposit I need to work towards before the D2X!! :)

The bank or any finance institute only required 5% deposit! why should you worry too much about it?

and that's what made me work yesterday and take on more overnight work to be on call and fix probs at 2am when everyone else is all warm and cosy !!

would love to have come to the minimeet and picked up transcend cards at special prices yesterday but the camera isn't paying for itself so i'm out doing the hard yards when everyone else is playing unfortunately

property prices are in decline so buy your D2X now rather than a house and it'll save you big $$$ in the long run. another thing to consider is fuel prices. sell your car, save money on insurance, rego and exhorbitant fuel and buy a D2X.

samester,
You have the excellent advise to Geoff, why should he bother to buy a house now? yes property's price is on the way downwind, if he buy a house next year he'll save himself another 50k, and buy a D2x now, enjoy first!!!!!

Hi,

I have the Kingston Elite Pro 2gb and also the SanDisk 2gb Ultra II there appears to be very little difference between them. But that is with the D70.

On EbaY I bought mine for $112.50 inc postage. Delivery was about 4 days from out of Melbourne.

Holy moly guys..slow down..all great advice, and yep..5% deposit but the heftier the deposit the better and my D70 will do for the moment..how much do you think I could sell my 2nd D70 for on ebay? Less than a year old...perfect condition. By the way Birdy, I'm just about to buy the 70-200VR...one thing at a time hehe!

Hi Birddog

b2biconnect_au ( 16506) this is the name of the trader to look for on ebay.

I watched his auctions for quite a while before bidding. Tuesdays appear to be the best days to win from this guy.

Good Luck

Tony

Not really! by the way we're seeing, the price of property atm is getting down very low in the next 12 months, what do you think if you paid your 20- 30% deposit now and compare the price of that property after 12 months, say 50K cheaper then you'll be :( .

and my D70 will do for the moment..how much do you think I could sell my 2nd D70 for on ebay? Less than a year old...perfect condition.

Few hundred dollars

Here is what I've found on that eBay reseller:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2GB-Compact-Flas ... dZViewItem

And it's the Kingston 2Gb CF Pro 66x/ BIN $179.99 + shipping

And the Transcend 80x 2Gb CF card was special at the mini meet $190.00.
The Transcend 80x 1Gb CF was $90.00.
The Transcend 80x 4Gb CF was $360.00

The speed of 66x or 80x does not mean a lot with the D70 but it'll show a big difference on the D2 series, I still have the Astone and Transcend 45x 2Gb to use with the D2h and my D100 so I noticed the difference of them in burst mode 8fps.

Birddog,

interesting..... they may have had too many go through at my sort of pricing.

As you know the example you have sent is a buy it now price. I never use buy it now, if it isn't up for auction then I have no interest (unless it is an exceptionally good buy).
