Although the D70 satisfies many of my requirements, especially in the personal usage department, I decided that the D2X would suit my professional and lust requirements.
After long hours of research and separating desire from practicality, I decided on a D2Hs.
Reasons: For 99% of my work requirements the need for 12 megapixel is zero and I do still have the D70 (and maybe a D200 at some point). The D2X’s differential, other than the 12M, would be multiple exposures to one image and overlay - this can be achieved in software such as PS - so no loss.
The D2Hs can use WT-2, does have CAM2000 and most importantly, for me, mirror lock and mirror delay.
So at 02:41 this morning I purchased a D2Hs - cost? $4,050.00.
When I receive the camera I will write a personal review

Local buy Birdie - DigitalRev were asking $4,800 buy it now plus the chance of gst on bringing it in.
I know that some will raise the warranty issue - warranty is something that I have never worried about as I use my camera(s) professionally and can justify any repair costs based on what I charge my clients

While MLU isn't really a feature I'm interested in for bird photography, it does however prove useful for the other aspect of nature photography that I enjoy, landscapes. Will the D200 have MLU, that is the question

Chris I bought a long lens once through DigiRev and was very happy with their service.
If you will excuse my ignorance can you explain what WT-2 and CAM2000 are?

The WT-2 is wireless module
The CAM2000 is the AF system of the D2.

Wendell why harass/go through Birddog for RRS components when you can import them yourself?
Fozzie and I just ordered some gear on the weekend and I have them already in my hands.

For some reasons I do it for him as bulk buy with my order, nothing better or help with my buying price but we can do or order other things as well.

hey birdy - are you buying any other D2X units soon, would be great to bring the price down and help each other out - i can wait in that case (happy for you to hold my funds etc - i prefer to give you the business to help each other). maybe if other members are looking to buy we can order together - it's very tough to justify the cost, i need all the help i can get!! i've seen the price of the D2X coming down at a few places now also - i wonder if that's a sign of things to come?
Samester,
I don't understand what did you mean? I always bought D2x and other stocks and sold to Govt. + Corporate Customers, it's my mainstream and I earned my living on them, and it's providing good opportunities for me in bulk buy with lowest prices which I can share with members on this board.
Sales to members + retail customers do not have enough glue to fill the gap which can buy me a carton of Crown Lager, your order of the D2x is just a favour which I'm doing as charity works for members, no more no less, created more headache for me
What price? and where did you see the D2x drop? make sure it's Nikon/ Maxwell stock. I can challenge with you on that.

maybe it isn't maxwell stock ? could be grey market imports flooding the market - it was just an observation.
sorry birdy, i didn't mean to offend you mate - we all (especially me) greatly appreciate your help. your advice and assistance in buying gear has been wonderful.
i do appreciate your help mate even moreso because i'm more than likely a difficult customer, it's tough working part time and being a student unfortunately.

Birddog, I know you do it as a favour and bulkbuy at times, and it's probably good for the new members. It's just with little things like RRS components I thought it best if members just order it themselves instead of adding a middle man (and the headache for you to process the order).

Yes & no, anyone would like to order direct they can do, but if someone wants my helps, I'm willing to do as well, no middleman here coz I don't earn any margin nor retention bonus from RRS.

Hi Chris, mate i hope you feel better soon as i hear there is a virus getting around.
I have a question?? where are all these D2hs coming from as you see a lot on ebay and Maxwells have them on there site but no price. I have seen some amazing pictures from these camera's even at 4.1mp. I would have thought that these being rather oldish i gather that wouldn't be a lot around but seems there is still a lot getting around and new ones.
Birdy might know as he mingles with maxwells?

A weird one is this virus. Firstly, a cough that felt like someone had hammered my head which then went on to a cough that made me feel as if my ribs were cracked. Aching bones plus I could hardly walk. The doctor told me a was a virus that justed needed time to disappear Hope you feel better soon Fozzie
