Nikkor 20mm f2.8Hi,
Does anybody have this lens or any experience with this lens? Also what would be a reasonable price for one of these second hand? Thanks in advance Cheers, Wayne Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Wayne, have it, love it. More useful on film sensors (my first real wide angle), but good quality and faster than the kit. Recently used it at a party, very handy. Not as sharp as 35/2, but you are probably using it for landscapes. Nice lens, have seen them $400-$700 s/h

Hi Glen,
Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't be using it for architecture or landscape shots, it's more useful with the wider aperture and tight indoor shots. I think I might look into this further Cheerio, W Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Wayne, not much help but just took an interior of the kitchen, all exif intact, f2.8 @1/40sec, at least gives you an idea of DOF. Taken at about 5-6 metres from the back wall, you arte seeing about 4.5 metres in width. Just ask if you would like something special or a larger version of this (needs some pp!)

Glen,
Have you cleaned the kitchen before this shot was taken? Birddog114

Birddy, I should have! Remove all crap and turn cupboard lights on plus stick it on a tripod if doing it properly

I've also got the Sigma 20mm 1.8. It's a good lens, and definetly less expensive than the Nikkor. It takes filters, but off the top of my head, I think they are 82mm, which arent cheap. Still you can pick UV filters up for under $50 on Ebay.
I find the less slightly soft wide open, but really (really) sharp at 2.8. But maybe the softness comes from my usage, and not the lens. Stranger things have happened... 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

I think I might go for the Nikkor. Just read a few reviews on the Sigma and wasn't that great :S Not sure if the pics of the lenses were correct, but the Sigma looks a lot larger than the Nikkor.

Hi Glen,
Thanks for those links and you efforts in looking them up for me. I read the first two links last night but didn't get a chance to find the pdf. The members on this forum never ceases to amaze me with their effort in helping out another person Greatly appreciated. Cheers, Wayne Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

I can't speak for the Nikon mount version of the Sigma 20mm f/1.8, but my shooting partner is not overly impressed with his Canon mount version. I imagine the glass is much the same although as always there's sample variation. Even closed down, he's not impressed with the sharpness and CA.

Thanks Glen, now i know someone else out there has a toaster just like mine.

Hi, I have the Nikkor 20mm f2.8 non-D version and it still is my main lens for landscape shots in my hiking trips. It is compact and light-weight (perfect for my hikes). Just be aware that it tends to flare if you shoot directly into bright soruces (eg. sun). Cheers, Edward
get the nikon.
also is the nikon you're referring to from the trading post? if so, i called the guy and he said the af-d had scratches on the body. He said optically should be alright, but just to give you the heads up Last edited by PiroStitch on Mon Sep 12, 2005 5:20 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Might need to bring the laptop to get that close up look..... does anyone have sugestion on what to take photos of to get an idea of optical condition of a lens
Bring a torch to look inside the lens for fungus, dust, etc

Olrac,
The sigma is actually 330 and not 350 He also has a non-D version which is 400 and in great condition (apparently). There's also another 20mm 2.8 for sale in the trading post but the guy wants $800 for it because it's in immaculate condition + comes with UV and CPL filters. I basically told him he was dreaming. Well I have in my hot little hands, this not so lightweight of a 20mm Thanks Birdie
Definitely going to be another different perspective for me as I'm more used to having closer crops of my subjects My initial thoughts are, hrmm same size as the 50mm 1.8 but heavier than it. It sounds incredibly solid, not that I'm going to be performing a drop test to find out how solid. Will post up some pics tomorrow when I get a proper play of it Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Looking forward to seeing your results from it
